Really Knives/Cutlery suggestions???

Any suggestions on good knives/cutlery to register for? My fiance and I need help deciding.

We were at C&B and got to demo the knives today. The Wusthof Classic knives mentioned in that thread are very nice. The C&B sales associate was explaining that the way the metal goes through the handle changes the weight distribution and makes a nicer knife. I was cutting carrots like they were nothing! We went for the Wusthof gourmet knives, which were reasonably nice, but much less expensive. (We wanted to increase our chances of actually getting them)

Most will say that the best knives are forged and not stamped. Beyond that, look for some quality brands - you can find them at great restaurant supply stores or William-Sonoma.

The best knife is the one that feels great in your hand.

Ditto Henckels. We registered for Henckels but were debating between that and Wusthof. I highly recommend either, and we've also loved the free Calphalon knife we got for meeting a registry completion at BBB.

We just registered for knives today at Williams-Sonoma! We went with the Wusthof Ikon ones. We're getting a free knife or shears or something, too, for registering at least $450! sweet.

I have the Calphalon Katana line, and I love it! Henckels, Wusthof, and Shun are all great brands, as well. If you go Henckels, look for the knives with the symbol that has two men (not just one). It's their indicator of a higher quality!
