alternative BM dresses

anyone have any ideas for bridesmaids dresses that aren't bridesmaids' dresses?  for instance, I was walking by Charlotte Russe and saw a super cute dress (we're a little worried it's too short for a church wedding) and I got to thinking about other stores/designers that might have something similar.  Even if the prices aren't as low getting something isn't a bridesmaid dress definitely ups the re-wearable factor!

Re: alternative BM dresses

  • JC Penney has some cute formal-ish dresses (and formals too).  Sears might have something.
  • I would look at Macy's, Ann Taylor Loft and Nordstrom. You could also check Banana Republic. Good Luck!

The Limited has really cute and affordable bridesmaids dresses on their website (they also have some gorgeous wedding gowns too). While you are more limited on the colors they have available, they almost always come in a neutral color that you could use accents with.

Edited to note that their "bridesmaids" dresses are totally re-wearable for other non-wedding related events.
  • I've known a few girls to get theirs from JCrew, and I think any of the other stores listed would work too.

You want to keep in mind, however, that wherever you're looking needs to carry appropriate sizes for all you BP members!  you don't want to hurt someones feelings b/c they don't fit in the dress...
  • The only one of my BMs who wore a dress from a bridal designer got it at a thrift store.  The others came from Kiyonna, BCBG, Target, and her own closet.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • DEB during Prom season...
  • Try Forever 21 they have cute stuff and most are around $30.
  • David's Bridal has an option where you pair a shirt and a skirt. It looks like a gown or cocktail dress (depending on skirt length) and each piece can be worn later.

  • I'm actually having my bridesmaid dresses made by a lady who owns a little bridal shop in my area.  I was looking for a certain shade of green, and the cheapest dresses that I could find for my girls started at $250 (Alfred Angelo).  This lady makes beautiful dresses, and I got to design them and pick out the material, color, etc., and the dresses will be made to fit the girls exactly how they want them to be fit.  All for only $125!
