advertising on message boards

Remember when I asked you guys about "hates" for message board sites?  One of the things mentioned was excessive advertising - popups and stuff, mostly.

Can you think of any examples of sites that do this?  I've already used the knot as an example twice in this writeup, so I'm looking for other stuff - places you lurk or cheat. Wedding-related, baby-related, craft-related, work-related, whatever.

Bonus points if you have actually quit using a site because of their excessive advertising.

I'll do some digging, too, obviously, but I thought you guys might have ideas off the top of your heads.

    perezhilton has a butt-ton of ads, but none are pop-ups. I can't think of the one site that really bothers me...I'll let you know if I think of it.

    i stopped reading forums.televisionwithoutpity.com due to the ads.

    I don't lurk on freejinger boards as much as I would because of the video ad crap.

    And I've shunned for periods of time diaperswappers.com until they change it back to whatever it was.

    "community" sites, so forums, message boards, that kind of thing.

    What did you not like about the ads?  I'm seeing 3 ads on there - a banner at the top, a square-ish one in the upper right, and a banner at the bottom.  Did it used to be worse?

    And OMG zilla, I totally forgot about that.  That was awful. I wish I knew the name of that...

    there's a popup too.  

    there used to be two skyscrapers on either side as well as a banner on top.  i think the way it is now -- ads mixed with actual content -- is actually worse.
