Newbie in Charlotte needs tips for tight budget!

We recently got engaged and before I always thought I wanted a destination wedding . Now I am thinking that even though I cannot have a platinum wedding, I could be able to pull off something nice. We are from WV but live in Charlotte now and want to find a venue here. Realistically my budget is only $4000, and I know that is no alot at all from some prices I've already seen. I am in the process of creating our guest list, and I'm planning maybe 75 - 100. We will probably have a good 25% of people being kids. Please let me know if anyone has had a nice wedding on a budget in Charlotte, NC or surrounding areas and which Venues might be in the budget I am looking for. Thank you so much in advance as I am not trying to overwhelm myself with wedding planning. We are looking at 4/20/13.

  • If you are you willing to traveling. Goldsboro has a venue that holds up to 400, has, Seperate dining halls, linens, mirror & hurricance center pieces, a bar with small fridge, full kitchen, ice machine. You can bring in your own caters, alcohol, and it's kid friendly. It's really a beautiful venue.. It was $750 when I rented in 2011. Here's the information hope it helps...

Venue: Dillard/Goldsboro Alumni & friends, Inc
    801 Poplar Street
    919-734-6697
  • I know someone who had their wedding at Col Francis Beatty Park in Matthews (just outside of Charlotte).  I didn't attend, but I saw pics and it looked beautiful.  There is a lake that sets a pretty scene for an outdoor ceremony and then you can rent their onsite venue for the reception.  I don't know about pricing, but it's a parks & rec center so I am sure it's affordable.

For affordable, quality vendors I'd check out the following:

Check out Harris Teeter's floral department for floral needs

    Good luck with your planning!
  • I'm 97% sure I'll be using Lake Point Hall @ Colonel Frances Beatty Park.  It is beautiful outside and the interior definitely has great bones.  It holds up to 120 people seated at round tables and 274 (I think that's right) theater style.

If you're having your ceremony outside, the lake view pagoda is so beautiful.  Though i'm still trying to figure out how to seat all 120 guests out there.  See the link for photos from a real wedding held there.

To rent the building or the outside space it is $480.  But if you rent one, you get the other space with it.

From one budget bride to another, I wish you the best!

  • I'm also using Lake Pointe Hall in Matthews. My wedding is July 20, 2012. Its a beautiful site. You can also check out some of the other parks and rec locations at charmeck.org.

    Good Luck!
  • Thanks for all the input!!! Has anyone gotten information from the Iris Room in Belmont, NC?? I've called left messages but need to call again.  I just seen the Frances Beatty on the park and rec site.  I had never really thought of a park before.  Definitely like all the reviews I hear of it...OMG...so excited!! Goal is book venue on April 20th...will be 1 year and then will seem much more real =)

  • Check out the Loft at 14th in Concord. They can accommidate up to 100 and they have two prices. $600 gets you the space from 4pm until you leave (I was literally told we could leave at dawn if that's how long the party lasted!) or $900 gets you the space all day. They also have a kitchen where you can DIY catering. It's small but it's cute. I believe the price also included tables, chairs and linens.
