April 2012 Weddings

What made you choose your wedding date?

My FSIL is having a baby and is due the middle of March. I wanted her to be recovered enough to be able to come to the wedding. In Waco, TX, where we are getting married, my allergies flair up really badly starting in May. So April was the month.

For the weekend, the first weekend is Easter, second weekend is my sister's anniversary and I didn't want to have the same wedding date as her, fiance' thought that the last week was too close to May, so here we are at April 21st.

So what made you choose your wedding date?

Re: What made you choose your wedding date?

  • My wedding is April 22nd!  I am in vet school, and between 3rd and 4th year we have one week off.  Friday I have the transition ceremony when we receive our white coats, so I couldn't have a rehearsal dinner then.  The rehearsal will be Sat, and wedding Sunday.  Then honeymoon for the week and back to start 4th year on Monday!
  • FI is in the Navy and They really decided for us. Haha. We had it all set for July, but he was supposed to be deployed, soooo that got nixed. Then April seemed like a good enough month, and worked with the church and they only had the 21st.

As sad as it  is now, the dates got moved   for his deployments and he is free in July, but has training immediatly after the wedding. BUT It was over 100 every day in July this past year, and I would hate that.

  • We're getting married April 29th.  We wanted a spring outdoor wedding and early April here can be pretty chilly, plus we didn't want any conflicts with Easter and Passover.  We have a lot of family birthdays through May and Mother's Day that we didn't want to conflict with, so our choice was narrowed down even further.  We decided to have a Sunday wedding to save money and the prior Sunday was already booked at the venue that we love.  It ended up working out because my FI is also in the Navy and we just found out this week that his orders are in and we will be moving to Nebraska 2-3 weeks after the wedding.

<div>I can't bold on my tablet, but...i don't know if you knew, but there is a military brides board, and the women over there are really nice! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /></div>

  • @Amanda Cute picture! We definitely didn't want summer either. I think it's going to be even hotter this year since we haven't seen much cold weather yet this winter.

Re: military brides. You have my admiration. I don't know that I could do it. My FI travels for work and he used to go to Europe for a week every other month. That was hard enough, but for him to be gone for months at a time? Ugh.

  • April 29th will be our ten year anniversary, so it just worked out for us :)
  • I'm in medical school, about to graduate this year. Our school builds in 3 months to our calendar to use as we need, so I finish in Feb, giving myself March, April and May to enjoy wedding planning/getting married/newlywed life. We also think April is a pretty month!
  • We wanted a Spring wedding, so April seemed perfect. The first weekend is Easter so we knew that was out. Then we thought we would go with one of the last two weekend, but the reception hall was booked for both of those already so that left the 14th!!!

  • I wanted a spring or fall wedding, because summer is SOOOOO hot in GA, and I also wanted to go on our HM cruise right after our wedding. A lot of cruises in ports near us were leaving on Wednesdays, and we didn't want to wait! Also, the prices of cruises in March were high due to Spring Break, so we nixed that, and we found a cruise from April 23-April 27 for much less! It leaves on Monday, so we can get married on Saturday, drive to the port on Sunday, and get up and go to the boat Monday.

I'm happy it worked out this way because late April is generally nice and warm but not super hot and muggy yet, and I'm glad we got a cruise for a great deal.

  • We picked April because we got engaged in March of last year.  The date was based on the availability of the venue (the only non-church venue that would hold over 100 people!)

  • I've always wanted an April wedding.

We officially began dating on August 28, he proposed on November 28, so when April 28 fell on a Saturday, we snatched it up! :)

  • We chose april 14th because we wanted to get married before the high-season starts... And we didn't want a long engagement.
  • We picked 4/21 because we wanted off season pricing but good weather!!!

We wanted a spring wedding but the actual date was choose for a more signifigant reason. My mother was sick my whole life and passed away a few years ago. So her birthday was April 6th so I wanted to get married on her birthday as a tribute  to her and also as a way to feel like she is there with us. She never even got to meet my finace:( Sad and happy all at the same time!

  • I knew June was expensive, July & August are too hot. My brother got married in September, so i didn't want the same month as him. I didn't want a winter wedding bc its too cold & i didn't want a fall wedding because I like spring colors better. I was already married in May, so that was out, so that left April. We chose the 20th, bc Fridays are cheaper than Saturdays and also allow you the entire weekend to relax and recover. And also because I wanted an even number. Some formula, huh? lol

  • We chose our date because FI is finishing his master's to teach high school math and it falls right before April vacation--so if he was doing student teaching at a place where he couldn't take more than a week for a honeymoon we would be okay! April 14th was taken so we snagged Sunday April 15th (in Massachusetts that Monday is a holiday for Patriot's Day, aka Boston Marathon Day).

  • We knew we needed an 18 month engagement to save money- we also knew we wanted an April wedding, and I wanted to have it ASAP after the 18 month mark, April 7 was out because of easter so we landed on April 14!
  • We decided on April 20th based on the venue's availability - mostly.  We were both set on a spring wedding in May (because of Panama City Beach is known for Spring Break in April) but the only date available in May was the 5th.  With a little googling, we found out that weekened is a huge biker rally (no wonder it was available).  We decided to pursue the end of April - and the only date available at our venue was the 20th.  We've grown to really like the idea of our wedding being on a Friday (even though we didn't get a discount)....it seems like everyone coming is planning a family vacation!  :)

  • Ours just worked out. We were going to wait a few years longer, but decided we had waited long enough. April 6th of this year will be our 7 year anniversery. And our pastor told FI once that if you can get to that 7 year hump, then you will be ready to get married. :))) So excited!

  • I've always wanted a Spring wedding, so that meant April-June. Since June is prime wedding season, it would be too expensive. In May, my allergies are at their all-time high, so that left us with April. On the first weekend we have a 3-day religious convention & the last weekend felt too close to May allergies. That left us with the 14th & 21st. Both were available at our ceremony & reception locations. I chose the 21st because I figured it gave me 1 more week to prep.
  • We got engaged in August and didn't want a super long (year or more) engagement, since we have been wanting to marry for a couple years now (I got sick, we had medical bills up the arse, so we waited).  We picked April 29th because it was available at our venue of choice, there are lots of people we work with that we wanted at the wedding but couldn't come unless it was on Sunday when we are closed, and the 29th has the added bonus of several important events occuring on the 29th of other months (my bday, our dating anniversary, etc).  Basically all he has to do is remember the 29th, and figure out what event is in which month, and he's good to go. (lol).

Co-incidentally, we'll have the same wedding anniversary as Will and Kate! Not that that was a deciding factor.  :)

  • I chose 4/21 for a few reasons.  It's actually my dad's death day. I wanted to honor him and turn the date into something more celebratory - plus he was a farmer and it's Earth Day, so we're going green.  Also, his B-day is July and mine is Nov so I thought it'd spread the love all year round - and by love i mean gifts!  Of course I didn't think about the fact that the week following is like the biggest week of the year at my job, so it's going to be CRAZY leading up to the wedding, not just b/c of the wedding but b/c of work!
  • edited January 2012
We are eco-conscious people, so Earth Day felt like a natural choice for us. We were glad it landed on a Sunday, since we wanted a casual luncheon. The 22nd was a good number for us too (we were both born in 11/88 and strted dating on the 11... I guess we like double numbers! The day also happens to fall on a big tradition at our Alma mater (the college where we met, and the city where we're marrying. In a shorter amount of words, we had a long engagement, and had a lot of dates to choose from. We picked a day that meant a lot to us, and everything worked out from there! I also consulted an astrologist friend in choosing our date! Our honeybee theme came from our date.

  • We chose April because we wanted to get married in Vegas. If we went in March, it'd be in the middle of spring break, and the place we wanted to get married is outside and the last weekend it's available is the 28th, so we decided to go for that. We also didn't want a long engagement so this upcoming fall was out.

We only found out after the date was picked that it has a lot of sgnificant things attached to it:

-Day that King Henry VIII became king (day his dad died)
-Aggie Muster Day (FI's alma mater in College Station, TX)
-San Jacinto Day in Texas - final battle of the Texas Revolution where Texas won its independence from Mexico

  • April 15 was my late grandparents' wedding date and we were really close. It falls on a Sunday this year, which also means lower pricing for almost everything, so that's how we decided on it.

  • Always wanted to share my mommy and daddy's wedding anniversay. After fiance proposed vday of 2011 I knew 2012 I wanted to get married. Looked through calendar and saw April 28th fell on a Saturday!!! It was a done deal. Praying my marriage lasts as long as my parents have. Plan on recreating a smaller version of their cake for my reception.
I dreamed of a wedding of elaborate elegance, I asked him what kind of a wedding he wished for, He said one that would make me his wife.
