Holiday poll

I've never sent holiday cards to my friends and family before. My mom used to, but gave up on it a few years ago. I'm thinking that now that I have everyone's addresses, and now that we're all married "grown up" and stuff, it might be a good time to start.

Re: Holiday poll

  • I can't see your poll, but I had the same thinking as you and so we're sending holiday cards this year.  I've been making cards as a hobby anyway, so I'm making them myself.

  • I have sent them in the past.  The intent this year is to send them again.  I'm a procrastinator so usually by the time I make a move on it, it's New Years.

  • I voted yes, but this is my first year sending them out. I am making them myself. I always feel bad getting them from people and not reciprocating so I decided we would send some this year.
  • We haven't yet.  We may start next year. because we'll be 10 months post marriage.

  • We sent them last year, but I haven't gotten around to them this year. I'll send a holiday card all right, but they holiday just might be Valentine's Day.

  • I started sending Christmas cards two years ago, and now that I'm married my list has doubled, but I still try to do it. My grandmothers have all told me how much they enjoy receiving cards from me. That alone would make me keep doing it, even if I didn't want to.

In fact, I'll probably get started on that this weekend.
  • i'm just torn about the waste of paper. But email greetings, while better than nothing, are just so lame.

I might just send them. I love mail. And I have lots of leftover supplies from my wedding invites that I can use to make cards too - woohoo!

  • Christmas cards are like crack to me.  If I enter a store with a display, I must look through EVERY box to find the PERFECT cards.  I usually end up with boxes and boxes of cards, usually bought on sale.

I loved seeing all of the cards hanging on our closet door as a kid, and love receiving them.  So, my answer is YES to the poll.

    Evil paper things, they are.

Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • We didn't send any last year, so this will be the first year we send them together as a couple. And he was so excited to do so! We ordered some with a pic from the vow renewal. Our family & weddings guests (which was mostly family anyway) will be getting them. And anyone else who wants a pic of me kissing DH on a bride over water.
  • I decided since this is our first married Christmas we definitely have to send Christmas cards.  I acutally sent Thanksgiving cards to really close family this year already, and I'll send CHristmas cards to a bigger list of people this weekend.
  • You could do a family newsletter.  Theoretically it'll waste less glitter than a holiday card.

  • I did one year, then life got in the way. But like you, after we're married, it would be nice to send one as a couple as something "grown-up" to do.

  • I've been doing Christmas cards for the vast majority of the past 17 years.

Two Christmases ago, it is how I occupied my time, while I sat in the Chicago airport, waiting for a delayed flight (which was then cancelled). They were mailed from Des Moines - who knew at the time it was an omen for future cards???

They don't always get mailed out BEFORE Christmas, but they go out during the Christmas season.

I'm considering a photo card this year, but DH is balking. Camera-Grinch.....

  • I want to send them.  I'm just haven't found the time to go buy some I like.  So. . . I dunno.

  • Your poll didn't load for me, but so funny you should say that as I was saying the same thing to H the other day- now we're married, are we grown up enough that people expect christmas cards? haha.
  • This is going to be the first year I send any out too.  We took photos in the park in tacky sweaters.  We're getting the photos back on Saturday actually.

  • I'm not sure I get the wedding invitations = holiday cards?

If we don't do photo cards, then I'll spend lots of time trying to pick out "perfect" cards, either funny or the perfect scene on the front. I love Christmas cards. Last year, we (I) sent cards with scenes from A Christmas Story; I've done the Grinch, and I'm always loving the classic tree scenes or Santa (think Coca Cola).  I've also done classical nativity scenes, and sent those to family members, and done funny cards to friends, who may or may not be religious.
