Wedding Woes

Why Me? I don't get what is so hard (My vent on table setting design)

I don't think I am alone on this.  I am sure a lot of other women have sacrificed their opinion on certain things (prom dresses, design or basically anytime in their life they wanted to look pretty and fell short to please someone else or because of cost issue etc.) and thought to themselves "that's okay, when I plan my wedding I will go all out and have a beautiful wedding".  It is now my wedding and surprise surpise everything is still looking mediocre/amateur hour at best.  They say every dog has it's day so what about us nice girls?  I'd like for once things to go my way.

Because I really really don't have an eye for design or creativity we hired a wedding planner whose website is beautiful and has received high marks from a lot of bridal sources.  Why then for my wedding is everything falling so subpar?  It's not like the theme is very tricky: pink parisian.  I have sent tons of pics and the design she came up with looked like something I would have came up with myself (NOT GOOD).  I am now 32 days away from the wedding and panicked.  I just want to have this one pretty day.  I am not meaning to be witchy, bratty or whiney  but I really thought I would have this one pretty day when things would go right and invested money, energy and time in sources that should have been able to make it happen.  Why are some destined for mediocrity no matter what?

If you love photos of other weddings she's done, I'm sure that what she's suggesting for your wedding is beautiful too. You are probably having some unrealistic expectations. Calm down a little and gain some perspective- your decorations will be gorgeous but that's really not what matters. Isn't a celebration of your love for your FI the point of all of this??
  • edited December 2011
Did you ever consider that it was your "theme" that was mediocre, and the planner is doing the best she can trying to fit it?? This is probably your fault, so that's "why you". Sorry, but best of luck with your marriage and stuff.

Also, if you had such high expectations for how awesome your wedding was going to be...why don't you have a bio?  We really need pictures of your ideas before we can give advice.

Wait . . . you can design table settings?

I thought it went forks on one side, knives on the other, maybe a spoon on top, some plates, maybe a prettily folded napkin.

I'm sorry you feel she hasn't stood up to your standards. Unfortunately she's human and can only gleem so much from information given. It sounds like she's realizing what you've said, if it's something you yourself "could come up with" right?

So you're looking for a romantic 20's - 40's era French feel? But in pink?

Wow.  You all are b*tches.  Yes this person is pretty whiney but if you didn't want to hear someone whine why'd you read a vent?!

Laurieac I am convinced you are so lonely rejected man who spends his time coming on here to insult women because you get turned down everyday.  This is not the first post you've been a raging dog on.

Poster if you're paying a wedding planner just step up to the plate and tell the wedding planner what it is what you want- DEFINITEIVELY.  Everyone else get a divorce attorney.  Because if you can't have a glean of sympathey for another frazzled bride then I give your marriage about 2 minutes.  My condolences to all of your husbands.

ACtually not *all* of us were bitches. But thanks for generalizing. Also? Some people need honesty to keep them in check. It's great that you're able to exist "happily" without it, but not everybody is you.

    Hi Everyone,

I am the previous host to my pity party.  I regretted posting that within 2 seconds but at least it's better to post online (especially since I have seen just as whiney posts and picked the proper forum and reading these are completely voluntary on your end) then actually whine to my family and friends.  Afterall what can you expect from a post that starts with "why me" in a wedding woe section but a dramatic, asinine post?

To those of you with constructive response, thank you.  I definitely need to clarify with my wedding planner.  To clarify to those of you who have no idea what I was talking about, my wedding colors are pink and green.  We are having adding subtle parisian accents to our wedding because I lived in Paris and was proposed to in front of the Eiffel Tower thus a pink Parisian theme.  A table setting design refers to the center piece and selecting the coordinating flatware, stemware and linen.  Glad I'm not the only one out there still learning.  Yes, they have to match.

To those of you who just felt like being cruel.  I hope you are shown more kindness in life then you showed here.  To all, have a great day.

What kind of Parisian elements would you want? There are so many ways to go with it, and so many ways to screw up a theme (you probably knew this) and make it look cheesy and childish. I mean... Eiffel towers in the middle of the table? Kind of cheesy. So what then can you do? Maybe choose a busy design for table cards, and have pink and green flowers all over the place?

They...have to match? No. No, they don't. I picked out my centerpieces and made some table runners and just assumed that the hotel had china and flatware that wasn't hideous. Turns out, I was right. Amazing!

Lauriac, you're the new head bitch! How's it feel to have your husband pitied?

I still don't get it.  Your centerpieces are one element...then you have plates, which are usually primarily white or ivory at most venues, perhaps with gold or platinum accents, not a hard choice, flatware is gold or silver, and then you have stemware...which is made of crystal!!   Unless your DOC is trying to use mason jars as wine glasses I don't see an issue.

and Retrotwat...grow up and find some big girl panties.
