Jeans Part 2

So I just updated our TK website and added a note "Please no jeans or tennis shoes."  It's pretty bad that I feel the need to do this, lol.

On another note, there's a girl on my FB (friend of a friend, and not close enough to invite to our wedding) who is so proud of her dress for someone's wedding.  She bought it in February, posted pictures, and just can't wait for her friend's wedding this Saturday to wear this very pretty dress.  I could only hope some of our guests take that kind of time and dedication for their attire, lol.

Re: Jeans Part 2

  • so this story reminds me of FI's aunt's wedding story.  They had a black tie wedding, now when I think black tie, I think formal long dresses for the ladies, tuxes for the men, etc.  Her MIL wore some gaudy floral cotton pant suit.  My future MIL wore some bubblegum pink polyester bubble dress (Now I realize it was in the 80s...but it still was nowhere near black tie).  So your story about the jeans makes me start to wonder what my future inlaws are going to wear...

  • Lol! My brother accidentally spilled something on his dress pants right before one of his best friend's weddings once and had to wear jeans. He looked so out of place! He's a mechanic, so he really only has one dressy pair of pants. Kinda funny. I have a feeling that my FI's family will dress better than my own! Lol!

You think you don't have to specify these things but there are def times when you know certain people that do have to be informed haha!

Though I'll share my wedding horror story now that we're talking about attire lol. A few years ago when I came here for the first time on vacation, future FI at the time invited me to go with him and some friends to their co-worker's wedding. My cousin and her fam that I was staying with, got the impression that it was a super fancy wedding and though I had taken with me a few very nice knee-ish length dresses, they explained that here the custom was that all the women would be wearing floor-length dresses. NOT TRUE!! They gave me this David's Bridal prom dress and when we arrived to the wedding that was an hour + away... everyone was in sundresses exactly like the ones I had!! It was awful, I was so embarassed. To everyone I must have looked like the country bumpkin going to her first wedding and had no clue about appropriate attire. Awful. Needless to say, I no longer trust anything my cousin says about customs and traditions lol.

  • lol that must have been awful, Nati, makes me think about which is worse: being over-dressed or under-dressed?

My FI was in a destination wedding in February and about an hour before the wedding started I went to get my dress out of the garment bag and it wasn't there. I ran over crying to the room where the guys were taking pictures and they all must have thought I was a total psycho. All I had was jeans and sweatpants. Luckily one of the GM's SO had an extra dress, kinda tacky and totally not my style, but MUCH better than jeans or sweat pants.

And I think I might add no jeans and tennis shoes as well, some people are just clueless.

Omg that was really lucky! Did you leave your dress at home? Ughh very frustrating. And you know, about being under or over dressed... I don't think any one is better. Simply being inappropriately dressed is extremely uncomfortable and sucks no matter what kind it is. grr
  • Well we live in CA but FI's family lives in Denver and the wedding was about 3 hours from Denver. So I brought my dress all the way from CA but left it at my FIL's house. lol, it's funny thinking about it now though....

And I agree, I hate both.

  • I actually have one friend who showed up to my dad's funeral in sweats.  I originally wanted her to be a BM (known her since 3rd grade but losing touch now), but Bobby doesn't even want to invite her after that stunt.  It wouldn't have been so bad, but the pants were hot pink and said "pink" or "babe" on the butt.  I was so embarrassed.

I'm actually going through something like this right now.  I have a meeting 30 miles away, and my boss is picking me up.  I've never been to a meeting like this.  The last meeting we had that was similar to this one was at a local store (of the chain we work at).  Today, it's at a large hall/conference center where my SIL got married in March.  I am still not sure what to wear.  I don't want to wear my uniform or jeans, and I don't want to end up overdressed (or underdressed).  Bleh.
