What are your plans for vows?  Having traditional vows?  Religious vows?  Writing your own?  Something else?

Re: 3/11

  • Our celebrant sent us this huge list of different vows.  Last night at dinner we read through all of them and really liked two.  So we decided to combine them into one.  I know most people haven't thought too much about this, but I was super excited!
Here's what we came up with:
I [Name] take you [Name] to be my [husband/wife], my friend, my love, and my lifelong companion, loving what I know of you, and trusting what I do not yet know. I eagerly anticipate the chance to grow together, getting to know the [man/woman] you will become and falling in love a little more every day.  I promise to share my life with you, to build our dreams together, to support you through times of trouble and to rejoice with you in times of happiness.  I promise to treat you with respect, love, and loyalty through all the trials and triumphs of our lives together.  This commitment is made in love, kept in faith, lived in hope, and made new everyday for the rest of our lives.

  • melb- that's really pretty!

We're sticking to the traditional "for better or for worse" vows.

<strong><font color="#0000ff">I wanted to go the traditional route FI wants to write our own vows ... All I'm asking him now is to tell me if there will be a little laughter or completely serious and he isn't budging ... so I've written 2 kinds serious and funny serious one ... the day of the wedding I'm just going to go with how I feel.

I think its cute he wants to write our own but I'm not a big fan of being the center of attention so I'm nervous lol

  • I want to write our own, but FI is not very fond of that. So to compromise, I think we may do the traditional vows, and then write each other a letter and read it to each other during the ceremony. =) Stole the idea from another bride in my Columbus group =)
  • Mel, I really like those vows.

I really want to write our own but FI has trouble with words and doesn't want to. I was planning on writting him a letter and having it given to him the day of before the ceremony.

  • Awww so pretty mel!! I would love to write our own, but not sure since we're getting married in the catholic church
  • Love the vows, melb!

    We are sticking with traditional.

  • Thanks everyone!  I really like them, but they are, of course, subject to change.  We're also doing Hindu vows.  There are seven HIndu vows that you make while walking in a circle around a fire (in our case, candles on a table).  By the end of the ceremony, I think we will have covered all the bases lol

  • Not sure yet, haven't really thought about it. But I know if I were to write something out, I'd TOTALLY forget it all when push comes to shove.

  • Mel.. Love the vows.. We will be doing tradition since we are getting married in my catholic church. Plus FI isn't someone who wants to be the center of attention too..even though this day is about us.. O well simple is what we are!

  • Melb, those vows are sweet. I can picture myself tearing up trying to say those..

FI and I are writing our own vows. My FI wants us to write sonnets for our vows, I love the idea. Our officiant will then take a look at the vows and tell us if they work together.

  • We are doing mostly traditional, all we are gonna say is 'i do' but we are going to change 'as long as we both shall live' to 'now and forevermore.' We are writing vows for each other that we will tell each other privately on our wedding night. We both have stage fright, and have agreed this will be much more personal and intimate
