Hunger Games

Anyone else read/reading them?! I started the first one yesterday and will probably finish tonight. Such a page turner!

Re: Hunger Games

  • I read the series earlier this year, and I'm thinking of rereading.  Loved them!
  • I finished the 2nd one last night. I am OBSESSED. I didn't think I'd like them but I haven't been this excited about a series since Harry Potter! Hope you enjoy them!

  • I read them all earlier this year! I couldn't put them down!!
  • Just finished book one! About 30 hours after starting it... and fitting in a work day in there!

    So good!

  • I have heard nothing but good things about this series of books. I need to check them out of the library soon!
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I got the trilogy for Christmas. I plan to start reading them as soon as I finish one of the books I'm currently on.  (I try not to be reading more than 3 different books at a time.)
  • They're amazing! I read all three in less than a week!!!

I read all three books in 3 days this week (Monday-Wednesday), and literally just got done re-reading book 1!  It's been a long time since I've loved a book so much I went back and re-read it!  I plan to re-read the other two over the next couple of days.  I am SOOO excited for the movie!  I heard they're already starting work on the Catching Fire movie!

<div>If you have an .edu email address, you can get Prime for a year. Prime gives you access to the lending library, which has all three of the novels for free. Just a heads up :)</div>

<div>My Prime expired a while ago. I thought it cost $$ to renew? I will have to look into it. Thanks for the tip! </div>

<div>Ah, yeah, it does. I haven't actually bought anything from Amazon on my Kindle, so at the end of January, I'll be creating a new email account with a different .edu email address so I can have access to Prime again. Abusing the system. ;) The $70 or whatever dollars is a little steep...</div>

<div>It's 39/year to renew for students. I didn't realize you could create a .edu e-mail. I may get a new one when my name changes for my graduate program, but who knows. Most of the books I buy I want to keep anyways so I guess it works! </div>

  • I read them recently, too.  They were very good - although I feel a little bad calling them "good" since they are so horror-filled in some ways.  I'm making FI read them so I have someone to discuss them with :)

I just started the 1st book and it's definitely good! I haven't had much time to read it though, so I'm only about 1/4 of the way through. I wish I could just hole myself away and read the rest, but working full time makes that difficult :0(

By the time I get home, work out, cook dinner, clean up, etc.. I'm exhausted and I end up falling asleep after only reading a few pages before bedtime. Hopefully, we'll have a quieter weekend and I can get through a lot more of it!

We read all three for book club.  A friend's DH had read them, so he joined us those weeks. :)  Usually it's just us girls.  He reads lots of scifi stuff and tried to explain how such and such was a common motif....

Now we're reading Matched by Ally Condie.  I just got it from the library this morning and I'm a quarter of the way through the book.  It's similar to the Hunger Games, but not violent (at least not yet).  A lot of the quotes about it compare it to the Hunger Games trilogy.

  • I highly dislike violence, so maybe I wouldn't like them? Haha I don't know, maybe I need to just try it.

<div>They're for sure violent. I don't do well with dark, but I was fine with this. I don't know that there's been a time when I thought they went too graphic, but the book is based around a very violent game, so be cautious :) </div><div>
</div><div>The original book is only a few bucks for Kindle, so not too bad if you want to give it a try! </div>
