Yes. In many countries, if you marry in a church/temple/etc. you still need to do a separate ceremony with a judge, because that's the legally recognized marriage ceremony.

Yep. Most marriages take place in official government buildings. If you want to have a church ceremony, that is after.

Hmm. I could have sworn that I explained this in my post. My parents were crazy Pentecostal freaks. We were raised to think that going to a doctor was showing a lack of faith in God, so I was never taken as a child. As an adult, I've worked for a non-profit organization the entire time, that only offered horrible insurance that was too expensive for what it offered.
Obviously, if I'm looking for a doctor, and asking for advice on it, I'm not opposed to them, I just haven't had the opportunity to go yet.

Yeah I don't get the judgy-ness of this. Sounds like a tough childhood, and I'm glad you're not in that situation anymore, but it's not like you had a choice. I had a friend in college who grew up dirt poor and she'd never gone to a doctor until college.

The mobile site is awful. I'm glad you see what I'm getting at though. The young thing might be correct, now that I think about it. Young brides (with some exceptions) can be grating at times.
  • I don't mind that seesaw has never been to a doctor. If parents don't agree with doctors (or in her case, think it is not having faith in God) what is she supposed to do? She cant really go until she is 18, then she may have not had insurance or something.

    Posted by pokepoke27[/QUOTE]

What makes you think some kids don't get bottles until they are 3? It's not recommended (due to the artificial nipples and their impact on tooth development), but some children get them in the morning and/or before bed - which is probably exactly when a 3 year old is being breast fed. The mom isn't stopping by his preschool to whip out the boob every few hours.

Breastfeeding is a natural way oif suppressing ovulation and spacing children. I believe the World Health Organization recommends breast feeding until age 2. In much of the world, extended breast feeing isn't "icky" or "unusual."

I DO judge the Time magazine cover for 1) choosing a petite mom and putting the kid on a chair to make him look bigger/older and thus more controversial and 2) choosing an inflamatory headline that was bound to feed into the mommy wars.

As an aside, I wear sunscreen on my face every day.

Idk about the rest of europe, but in France there are two types of ceremonies.  One is the civil ceremony (which gives you all the legal rights) and the other is religious.  Some people opt for just the civil, but if you JUST have the religious ceremony, you are not legally recognzied as married.
