Return Address Question

First let me write out all the details of the living arragements and whos paying for what and then I need help on how to correctly make the response address.

I will be living in Indiana until June 2011 and then moving in with my fiance two months prior to getting married due to accepting a job in my new town.

My mother is paying for the food at the reception but I am paying for the rest of it but the wedding is being held in Indiana in my hometown.

Should my wedding response cards have my mothers name and home address or should they have my name and my new address in my new town I am moving to? Should I include my fiances name as well if I make it the new home address?

SO LOST!

Re: Return Address Question

  • The question you really should be asking yourself is: Do I want mom to collect the RSVPs and keep track of who is and isn't coming?  If I had to ask myself this questions I'd say hell no.  You could compromise and put the return address on the actual invitation as mom's house and have the RSVPs come to your new address.
  • It doesn't really matter who is paying, it's more convenience and who wants the job of collecting/counting. For us, it just made more sense to send them to my parents because they live in the town where we got married and my mom really wanted to see them when they came in. I didn't care either way, so I did what made my mother happy.

  • My parents are paying for most of our wedding, and in exchange, I am doing all of the work.  Therefore, I am having them RSVPs sent back to me.

  • I had the response sent back to my adress. My parents are paying for the entire wedding, and they offered to have the responses come back to them- however, i did not mind this task and I was so excited to get the responses in the mail! I'm not sure of the proper etiquette, but i just view it as a matter of preference.

  • Absolutely agree with everything already said and one small addition.  The person receiving the responses needs to be the one who will give the final count to caterer, facility, etc.  Sounds easy enough BUT I'm fairly certain every bride has the following issue:  Hector and Adelaide were a courtesy invitation; haven't seen them in years so their no response is most likely a definite "no;" on the other hand, Betsy Lou never responds but always shows up with a guest so you need to count her as at least two people.  In other words, no matter what your spreadsheet says, you will have to play a bit with the numbers to come up with an accurate count.  Oh my, are we having fun yet???
  • If you want to be in charge of RSVPs and numbers for caterers and favors and programs, I'd have them delivered to you. I personally think it would have been a hassle to have them sent to my mom and have to make sure the list was updated all the time. I'm too hands-on to give up something like that, considering I did all the planning. It was so much easier to just do it myself.

Personally, I don't think anyone is going to give you the side-eye one way or the other where the RSVPs are sent.

  • I agree with everyone. Where the RSVPs get sent does not say who is paying. I am having them sent to my mom's. She was all excited about it and I'm over there all the time anyway so it will be something fun for her and I to do!

  • Ditto pp's. My parents were not involved in planning our wedding whatsoever. We live out of state but our wedding was in our hometown. We had all of the rsvp's go to IL's house as they were our liasons for us when we couldn't be there to do something. They counted them all up and gave the final count to the reception venue before we even got in town for the wedding.
