Tell me about your pets

This is Elvis:

He is about 5 years old and I think he is a Chihuahua/Terrier mix (his body looks very Pugish though).  H's ex purchased him from a pet store (ugh) and he was obviously from puppy mill because he was sold as a "teacup" Chihuahua.  There is nothing teacup about him!  Anyhoo once he got big, she realized she was tricked.  She no longer wanted him.  H kept him because they bonded, left her and now I'm in love with the both of them.  Elvis is my soul mate in animal form.  He is the reason I love dogs and understand a dog's loyalty & unconditional love.  He is the reason I started volunteering at the animal shelter.  He is the reason I have 2 other dogs now.  Elvis changed my life.

This is Wolfie:

She is a German Shepherd, about 8/9 years old.  H's dad purchased her in 2002 from a breeder who specializes in police/service dogs.  He kept her outdoors her ENTIRE life.  He wouldn't feed her; she would hunt to survive.  She was the nicest the dog, I felt so sorry for her.  When H & I bought our house, we decided to take Wolfie from his dad, she was 6 at the time.  She is the smartest dog I've ever met.  She was housebroken in 1 day, learned a bunch of tricks on the 2nd or 3rd time I showed her and truly enjoys life indoors.  She is the matriarch of my furry family.  She keeps the other dogs in check and is so playful.  You would never guess that she is a senior citizen with bad hips.  She loves all people, it surprises me since she wasn't socialized as a puppy.  I'm assuming it is due to good genetics (?).

This is Kooper:

She is about 6 months old now, a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix.
This is the photo that I saw while looking at dogs on Petfinder.com.  Her eyes looked so sad, I knew in my heart that I needed to be her mommy.  I filled out the adoption application and hoped for the best.  25 people applied to adopt Kooper and Linda from Save a Pet/Crossing Paths Rescue said my application made her cry, she knew it was meant to be.

On August 7th, retired Marines (a husband & wife team - Semper Fi Rescue) transported my 11ish week old puppy along with 15 other dogs from Alabama to Pennsylvania to their furrrever homes.  Kooper was abandoned in a box on the porch of a high kill shelter in July, her life was saved by the kind people at Crossing Paths Rescue. I am forever grateful for the people that do this type of rescue work on a daily basis.

Right now I'm working on socializing her and finishing up obedience school which has helped her a lot.  She is terrified of being in the car (can't blame her after the 26 hours she spent coming to PA).  Every night after work, Koop & I sit in my jeep for 10 minutes or take short rides around the block, I think it's working because she stopped drooling.  She is almost housebroken &  90% crate trained.  She is my Super Duper Kooper.

That picture of Kooper almost made me cry.  From reading this board, I got the impression that you do rescues?  That's wonderful!

Anyway, our crew is on the left in the pic.  Bowin is my H's cat.  He's a Ragdoll and was the runt of his litter and was given to H's exW.  He's a total "people person" and he talks.  When scolded he says "Noooooooo" and when wandering around the house (we think he's got a bit of dementia), he goes from room to room "Mom?"

Justy is mine.  I got her from PetFinder after xH and I split up.  Don't know much about her history other than she seemed to be a one person cat but since assimilating into H's household, she's much bolder.  She's also quite the wrestler and bodyslams Bo on a regular basis.  But in her defense, Bo's always starting something.

ETA:  Bo is on the left
  • What a sweet furry family you have! :D
I don't have pics online (need to do that!) but I'm bringing two cats and FI is bringing one dog with him to the family. :)
Stache (so named because of the black mustache-like mark on his nose) is a 1 year old tux. We got him from our vet as a baby. My mom had had to take in one of our fosters (also a tux) to be PTS because of complications from FeLV. On her way out, she saw little Stache-a-roni and took him home in honor of Biscuit. Stache is a dog in cat form - doesn't know a stranger, loves to be in the middle of EVERYTHING, and is an absolute pig. If I didn't keep the food locked away, he'd be 30 pounds!

Chaz is a 6 year old silver tabby with white. He came in to my house at 4 weeks old with his siblings. He was such a sickly kitten and almost died several times, but you wouldn't know it today! Such a big, sweet boy. He's very jealous of anybody who gets my attention, but loves FI (he hated my ex....always listen to your pets!).

Chomps is FI's 3 year old English Bulldog. He might be the grossest dog that ever lived (gas, bleching, drool, etc) but he's just as sweet as he can be. We think he was a puppy mill dog (former owner purchased from pet store) and he's not at all well bred (read: ugly) but we love him to pieces. :D

  • This is Sabretooth. He's a huge 7-month old orange tabby. He's a handsome guy, but snaps his eyes shut every time I try to take a pic, so I don't have many good photos of him. This is an old picture, and he's grown into those ears now. I think he's getting close to 7 pounds now, and is all muscle. He loves to play, beat up his little brother, and drag random stuff around the house. He's SUPER friendly and talkative.

This is Cyclops. He's a tiny 6-month old tuxedo kitty. He somehow manages to hold his own against his feisty big brother. When we adopted the two of them, we didn't know it yet, but Cyclops had a nasty case of worms that ended up stunting his growth a bit. Cyclops loves to explore, jump places he's not supposed to be (he got up on top of the fridge the other day!), open closets with his paws, and snuggle, although his version of snuggling usually involves kneading on me with his claws out. He's shy around new people and only talks when he knows he's about to be fed.

They love to snuggle each other. They're both asleep in this photo.

I talk about him all of the time, but here is is again!

    This is Ozzie:

I think he's my furry soul mate. When I moved to KY to be with FI, we talked about getting a dog, but I wasn't sure if I was ready for the responsibility. I actually told FI right before my birthday that I didn't think I was and we should wait, but he already had plans.

He bought me a gift certificate to the local Humane Society for my birthday in 2008. It was a Friday, so we planned on waiting until sometime that next week to go look. The HS has an online database of their animals that is updated in real time. I only lasted until Monday before I told FI we had to go look. I found Ozzie on the website and we went to "browse" but I was really going to see him. It was love at first sight.

The Humane Society has adoption annexes in all of the local Feeder Supply stores. The moment we walked into the store, I saw Ozzie and he saw me (I know this sounds SO cheesy). However, it's true. There were some other people around, but Ozzie just kept staring at me. I picked him up and couldn't put him down again! We looked at his brother, but I knew Ozzie was the one. We took him home that night. I have a pic of FI holding Oz while I was checking out at the front with stuff like his leash and food bowl and stuff. It's on my old phone, so I really should try to get it off there to keep.

He was born 8/9/08, so he's a little over two years old! He's a character and definitely spoiled. After two weeks he was sleeping in our bed and has been there since. I always say he didn't realize he was hitting the jackpot when we walked in that night.

ETA: Ozzie was my first shelter dog. I always grew up with pure-bred dogs. I'm hooked now and I can't wait until we move into a bigger house and can get another dog!

Maybe some day I can really do rescuing but right now I just walk & play with shelter dogs on the weekends & help out with fundraiser/adoption events.

    This is Leo:

He's about 9 months old in this picture and he's 2 &1/2 now. His mom was rescued by a family at their beach house who soon discovered that she was pregnant. They brought her home and kept her comfy until she delivered Leo's litter. He was the runt and the only orange tabby. The family posted a notice about adopting the kittens at their vet office, where H went looking for a kitten for me. No one else wanted the runt so we went to look at him. He was adorable  and he came right over and bite DH on the toe and ran away. He had mischief written all over him and I was in love. When he was a kitten he used to climb the backs of my furniture like a lizard then launch himself off and run away. Now he likes to cuddle under the covers and purr with me every night to stay warm. He also thinks he is a dog and runs to the door when someone arrives and talks like crazy. Several people have said he is the most social cat they have ever seen.

    This is Dakota:

DH always wanted a dog so when he finally talked me into it we went looking on petfinder for the perfect furry friend. We found Dakota's litter about a 4 hour drive from our house. Someone's un-neutered/un-spayed dogs did what dogs will do and produced Dakota's litter. They didn't want the puppies so they gave them to a shelter who found a great family to foster the entire bunch. We hand picked Dakota from his picture and found out that he was also the runt just like his big brother, so we figured it must have been fate. He's a boxer/beagle mix and is about 1 & 1/2 years old now. He thinks the cat is a play thing and likes to stand over him to intimidate him, even when the cat is hissing at him. Apparently he thinks it's all in good fun. He likes to run circles around the living room and gets all excited when someone laughs. He shakes his tail so hard in happiness that he hits himself on both sides of his body and shakes his butt. He has the saddest brown eyes and know how to use them. He never fails to entertain us and I can't imagine life without him.

  • Ozzie!  Ozzie!  Ozzie!  Hahaha I absolutely love Beagles.  I've noticed a lot them in the shelter lately.  We have 3 pups there now (1-2 years old) owner surrenders because they are difficult to train.  Is that true? I just think all puppies in general are hard to train and people aren't prepared for the work.  My next dog will be an adult dog, so much easier.  Wolfie had me spoiled.

  • Pinkpinot - whatever you do is a tremendous help!  My friend and her husband are into greyhound rescue.  They've been bringing up dogs from Florida tracks and the stories she tells me about what these poor animals have suffered through.  So however you help, you ARE helping.

Opalsky - I love the pic of the cats sleeping together.

I love your puppies pinkpinot! So cute! Elvis does look pug-like. I have a soft spot for pugs. This is Otis Redding, he'll be 5 years old on January 23rd and he's an Aquarius Cool
H got him for me for a graduation present and I can't believe how much I love him. I had never had a dog before and now that I do I get the whole "dog love" thing.
This is him blowing bubbles out of his jowls after a bath

This is being lazy and sleepy...which is pretty much all the time.

And this is him with his pug soulmate Olive. Olive is my mom's pug.

  • My cat is named Theo.  I got him when I was in college at a local rescue shelter.  I picked him out because he was the only one that would come up to me and get in my face so that I could pet him.  Plus he looked just like the cat I had while growing up that had died a year earlier.  He's a black tabby cat.

His adoption papers said that he was left at a dumpster which just made me cry but I'm so glad I was able to help at least one rescue animal even though I wish I could have had them all!

You can't really tell from the picture but he loves to sleep in the laundry basket before I have the chance to fold the clothes.

Yay!  I love doggies.  I want to kiss all of your dogs right on their noses.  I love them.  I would bite their paws and make stupid noises at them.

This is Hasselhoff.  He's 3, and he's a lab/pit bull mix.  We bought him in a parking lot.  I bought drugs in high school in deals less shady than the purchase of Hasselhoff.  Dude rolled up in a station wagon with his family and was like "Yo, you're the one who wants the dog?  $100."  We had been looking at rescues and shelters online when we found this guy...something tells me he had misrepresented himself.  I was uncomfortable with the situation, but I was more uncomfortable with letting him stay with these people, so I purchased him.  We think he was shady about it because he told us that he was pure black lab, and our first vet visit the next day told us otherwise.  We wouldn't have cared about the breed at all...hating on a breed is like hating on a race, and pit bulls are notoriously good family dogs.  Hoff is the most awesome dog ever.  If there's a tennis ball in a one mile radius, Hoff will sniff it out and insist that you throw it for him for several hours.  He's of the belief that he is a lap dog, and he is wrong.  If you come to my house, he will climb on your lap until he feels that you have loved him sufficiently.

This guy is Pig.  He's a puggle.  We started talking about getting a second dog when Hoff was around 1, and one day in my office a poster showed up with Pig's picture and the title "Free to a Good Home."  I grabbed it off the wall, called Todd, and we drove to my co-worker's house that night to meet Pig.  He was two at the time, and poorly cared for.  We took him home, changed his name (not on purpose...his name was Talib, but as he started fattening him up, I started calling him "Piggy" and it stuck.)    Pig is the sweetest and stupidest dog on the planet, and I love him.  He had some horrible infections when we got him and it took months of steroids to fix him up, so he is a little bit overweight, but he's starting to slim down again.  Our youngest child has been playing a game of "chase me!  Now I'll chase you!" for about two months with Pig.  Pig doesn't know he's playing a game, he jus likes running up and down the hallway.  Pig is wearing a bikini because I think it's funny.  His eyes tell such a story, so they do.

  • Matilda, Leo's photo has me cracking up.  Very regal.  Dakota is a very handsome boy, I like his feisty personality.  Your pets are having a species identity crisis :-)

  • These are the kitties:  Koston & Poopy (yes, that's her name)

Koston was H's and Poopy was my baby.  They are now best friends (most of the time.)  They both were strays that we took in as kittehs.  Koston is 20 lbs and Poopy is 24 lbs.  They both love eating and sleeping.  Kosty is a fiesty boy and talks A LOT.

    This is my princess, Bailey:

She's a pit bull (obvs) and thinks that she is a 5 lb lap dog.  I've had her since she was a pup.  She loves chewing, her belly rubbed and a good piece of real bacon.  She also likes going to the dog park and cuddling with the cats, believe it or not.  She also lets the cats boss her around.

He is 5 years old and my biggest best friend ever in the whole world. I rescued him in November of 2005 when he was 3 months old in Ventura, California. I went to the rescue one day on a whim because I was lonely and hated my life and needed a new friend. He was the only cat there that day and the lady said that all his brothers had been adopted so I knew he needed me as much as I needed him. We traveled all over Southern California together and if it hadn't been for him, I wouldn't have been able to get out of bed in the morning sometimes. I seriously don't know where I would be without him. Then I moved home in 2008 and he flew on the airplane with me and everything and then H met him at the airport for the first time and immediately loved him forever. When I'm at home, he is like my little shadow and has to be everywhere that I am....he even has the same bedtime as me every single night and won't get out of bed in the morning until I do! His favorite thing in the world (besides me) is chicken. And he talks ALL the time. I love him so much that I recently had him put permanently on my skin.
Then there is Grover. Otherwise known as Baby G.

We rescued G in July of last year because I thought that Oskie might love to have a friend to play with while H and I were at work. He will be 2 in April. It was really the best decision ever because he keeps Oskie very active and it didn't take long for them to become best friends, even though I know G annoys the hell out of him at times. (But what sibling doesn't?) G's favorite thing is to make a huge mess. He is constantly taking things off tables and running around the house like a tornado and making all sorts of funny noises. (H and I call them his racecar noises...he seriously doesn't run anywhere without making them.) He also enjoys helping me on the computer while I work and helping H play video games. G was one of two in his litter and the nice thing is that I know the girl that rescued his brother, so we keep up with each other on how the other one is doing.

Here is a picture of my boys together:

  • Cfas, our dog is a boxer/beagle and I can't get over how cute he is, and it's all the boxer in his face. DH and I have already decided that if we get another dog we want to find a boxer because they are so cute! Unfortunately the beagle part of our dog happens to be the braying bark. You're so lucky your dog is quiet.

[QUOTE]How do I make it pop up as an image? Do I have to upload it to some photo hosting site?

Save the picture on your computer and click the picture button (it's a tree) and upload the photo and it should appear in your reply.
