POLL: Consignment

This conversation came up recently with some friends of mine, so I figured I'd toss it to the board and see how you all responded...

How do you feel about bridal and/or formal consignment? Would you consider consigning your dress, slip, veil, headpiece, etc. after you used it? Would you buy any of these items from a bridal consignment store?

Just curious... :)

I would both buy and sell.  Snooty Fox has an amazing selection of dresses!

I would definitely buy my jewelry/headpiece from a consignment shop.  I considered doing that for the dress, but it would only work for me if I happened to find the dress that was just what I wanted, and the odds of that happening are pretty low.
I'm not sure about selling items tho...I don't know how I'd feel about parting with them!

Absolutely.  Why not share your good taste with others (at a much more reasonable cost)?  And I have to second the Snooty Fox; she takes only the best.

Your rescued puppy is precious, BTW; where did you get her?

Belle-- Thanks :) Maya came from a Middletown rescue called "PAWS" (Progressive Animal Welfare Society) 8 summers ago.  She's the sweetest, best dog I've ever had!

Consignment shops are great.  You probably won't get back nearly as much as you spent but every little bit helps.  I've seen the selection in Snooty Fox and it's unbeatable by consignment shop standards.  And yes, I'd definitely purchase wedding items from them.  A budget is a budget is a budget . . . .

I would love to buy everything from consignment if I could, but there's really not any shops in Pittsburgh. I would consider consigning all of my stuff after the wedding, too.

I'm a fan of consignment, we call it 'recycling'.  My wedding dress (I'm an encore bride) is a cocoa colored sheath with a short bolero jacket -- eBay.  My daughter is wearing a dress her best friend wore to a school dance -- free.  I figure that if my sister were my size, I'd borrow her clothes, right?

My own 20-year-old first-gown was sold on eBay last year for a fraction of the purchase price.  That was fine ~ my own daughter is already too tall for it and will never be as curvy ~ and I was glad that the buyer (a military wife) could have a really-really-gown on her own tight budget.
