Save the Date question

Okay
Here's the scenario:

Destination Wedding

Memorial Day weekend wedding

Lots of people coming from out of town (long distances)

How soon do you send out the Save the Date?

(We have two years, so its not too late: Date set at 5/26/2012)

I sent mine out about 9-10 months before (mine was also Memorial weekend with a lot of people traveling).

My wedding was Labor Day weekend and 48% of our guests were coming from out of town with another  50% coming from out of state.  We sent our's out 10-12 months in advanced so people had almost a year to make arrangements and save up to travel.  We had a two year engagement so that worked for us. Hope that helps! :)

We had people who knew about the wedding way in advance even before the save the date was sent and still didn't show up.

For a holiday weekend, I'd send it out at least 8 months in advance and then I'd do e-mail reminders as you get closer.

My MIL was extremely pissed that no one from her family(who was out of town) showed up.

I was in the same situation (Memorial Day weekend, out of town).  We sent ours out about 11 months before to give people time to prepare for the long trip.
