Am I on the late freight?

So I have been noticing a bunch of tickers for countdowns to weddings in a year, 10 months, etc.

So am I on the late bus?  We are thinking about an August 2011 date which is just around 10 months away.  I have neither a ticker, a planning bio, a venue, nor a firm date.

Is there something wrong with me?  (well, besides the obvious)

  • The only thing wrong with you is posting a wedding related question on a wedding message board.

    Weirdo.

  • Not in the least my dear!  I planned ours in 7 months.  As long as you're not like, "ZOMG I HAVE TO GET MARRIED AT THIS ONE PLACE!!11!" Then you're all good.

That being said, I crack the whip at you because I want to see your plans. :)
  • I'm looking at 11 months from now, and I'm in the same boat. Of course, I'm sure it'd help to actually be allowed in the country I'm having the reception in.

  • Nah.  I mean, yeah, there's the obvious, but as far as wedding planning?  Nah.  We got engaged at Christmas (I know, I know) and married mid-July.   August is not the most popular wedding month, so you should be fine getting a great venue and all that.  That's the most time-sensitive thing, I think - there is tons of time to do everything else.

  • I spoke to the Wizard last night.  He said you are DQ'd because of your gingerness.

    Sorry yo.
  • I never made a planning bio so I can't speak for that part.  Or a married bio.  Shoot if people want to know about me I'll send them to my wedding pics site and they can make up the story that goes along with our wedding.

And I truthfully only had the countdown ticker because I hated doing the math to know how much time we had left.

    So I'm a knot-planning failure too I guess.

You can't get married until you have a ticker, Smokey!  Fortunately, the order goes something like this: venue -> date -> ticker -> bio.  So, I think you'll be okay.  ;)

In all seriousness, start shopping for a venue soon because they do tend to book early and more choices are always better than fewer choices.

  • I had a year and a half... but then again, I was ZOMG I HAVE TO GET MARRIED AT THIS ONE PLACE!!11! so I started early to make sure I got it. :)

Not to scare you or anything, but we booked our reception location in March 2009 for our August 2010 wedding and we got the last available Saturday night that month.

BUT, our wedding was in South Bend, IN where there aren't an huge number of choices so things book up faster. I would imagine that LA doesn't have that problem.

ETA: I assumed your wedding is in LA since that's where TK says you're from.  Sorry if I'm wrong about that.
    image
  • You're definitely not late. Girls on my club board have been planning for months and some already have their dresses. I think they're kind of crazy. I had a ticker for a short period of time, but decided to not put one in my sig until it was closer to next fall. Having a ticker that says "11 months, 3 weeks, and 6 days" seems kind of redic to me.

I have one on my bio though. :) I just made that when I was bored one Friday night. I have one thing on the inspiration page because that's how far I've come with my wedding planning. Picking the colors.
  • I had a ticker, once upon a time.  It annoyed me so I banished it to the nether.  Now I kind of miss it because I'm being so lazy about planning I feel like I need the constant reminder.
    image
  • Eh.  I planned mine in 9 months, my H picked a "popular" date, and everything still worked out.

You might consider setting a timeline for yourself and trying to stick to it.  Otherwise, you're fine.  :)
  • Oh, we have two venues that we are working with on pricing but neither is booked yet.  One is here in our city and one is in Las Vegas.

I guess I just feel left out because I don't have any questions about who I should invite a year out.

Aww, don't feel left out!  You could always ask us questions like "Hey guys, have you seen my tampon?" or "Should I ask for paper or plastic at the grocery store tonight?  I can't deciiiiiiiiiide!"  You'll fit right in.

    Dairy Queen'd?
  • Part of the reason I don't look on my club board much is because I just don't have much in common with them yet. I don't really plan on even thinking about anything wedding related until 2011. I've designed one possible STD design, but that's because I'm a graphic designer and I had absolutely nothing else to do that day. I see deals on VistaPrint that would be good, but I feel stupid for trying to order stuff right now. I just passed the 365 day mark this week, so I have awhile. :-/
