Ok, I'm planning a destination wedding, so I'm relying on our venue's coordinator for everything. She's been very helpful so far, but I do have a question about cake, and how big a cake we should order.
We have 25 guests(including us). She recommended a 5 kg cake. (Most cakes in the US are estimated in number of tiers or in number of slices, so right off the bat I am confused.) 5 kg is equal to about 11 lbs. Dude, that's almost a half pound of cake per each person.
I love me some cake, but even I cannot eat a half-pound of cake in one sitting! Especially not after having cocktails, a champagne toast and a four-course dinner that includes a dessert/fruit course! Since it's a destination wedding, obviously we won't be packing the top tier home in our suitcase - we're going to serve the whole cake.
So, I need advice in two parts: A) Does this sound like a crazy amount to anyone else?
How should I estimate how much cake to get in kilograms for 25 people? Any pro bakers out there who can help me??
