This thread turned from normal, to BSC, to hilarious. Tongue out
  • edited December 2011
    Uh well...

    1) I'm engaged, married in August 2010 (twin with Katanne!).  I wish I was married already though.  One less thing to worry about then.

    2) I was with all the semi-polite debate until you said the monkey thing.  I'm with Desert, that's over the line.  Of course, then it was made into a funny, so I guess it turned out alright.

    3) To whoever was getting the advice about the ring and the upcoming proposal, I'm the one that Button was talking about with the ring on the dresser for a year.  Except to clarify, it wasn't BF's dresser.  It was OUR dresser, and he kept the ring in the box right next to my jewelry box where I saw it every. single. day. from Aug. 2008-Oct. 2009.  Good luck, but don't get your hopes up.  Just because he has the ring, doesn't mean he's going to ask immediately.  He'll ask when he feels that it's the right time.  That might be this weekend, but it might be next year.  You don't want to get your hopes up and then be disappointed.  It'll ruin your weekend; trust me, I know what I'm talking about with this one.

Acro, I can't even imagine how crazy that would make me!  You're a better woman than I!

To the other wisdom givers, your insight is patronizing.  Trying to "warn" me about the facts of the world or the truths of relationships is just silly and unnecessary.  Your wise opinions, and head patting (get a cat), are wasted on me.

    Adorable.

I'd seriously change the name. In less than thirty seconds I found the paper you work for, old news paper articles from the swim team, where you went to high school and possibly a blog entry about you eating or being present for the consumption of strawberry jam by the spoonful. All that was w/o actually looking all that hard.

Ha.  Don't get upset.  You just don't know who you're patronizing when you patronize.  The people that have been on here for a while attack new people w/o knowing where they're coming from...and now I know that.  I'll leave you alone!

You might want to take a look at that advice for yourself.
Granted it's the internet so you can't tell the tone that someone is intending to use so I guess there was no way for you to know that 1) I wasn't being patronizing and 2) I wasn't upset.

But I get it, looking around here it makes sense to start out on the defense. No harm, no foul.

I'm NEY, for the record. So here's what I'm curious about...if you don't need to think about the wedding until you're engaged, why does The Knot have an NEY board in the first place, and how did the rest of y'all end up here?

I'm here because...well, this piece articulates my feelings right now about marriages and weddings better than I ever could: http://www.nerve.com/content/dont-put-a-ring-on-it

And yeah, I do eventually want to get married to the man I've been going out with for three and a half years, (and we've had the conversations about joint accounts and puppies and children, and occasionally I glance at The Knot and then pretty much run away screaming because weddings involve so much to think about - what do you mean there are 373 items on my checklist???), but not yet.

But you know why I'm *really* here? Between the zip-ties and the pirate weddings and the monkey babies, this is probably the funniest board on The Knot.
  • edited December 2011
I'm pretty sure there is a NEY board b/c The Knot doesn't care if you're engaged, they just want you to buy stuff from them.

From a business standpoint I'd want a ton of beebees running around my website with their credit cards placing order for things that don't matter or at the very least training them early that things like monogrammed cocktail napkins and isle runners make a wedding.

As stated previously, TK has a NEY board to make money.  TK is a business, pure and simple.  Well, maybe not pure.

I came to TK while looking for ideas for my MOH's wedding (she was actually engaged before me but married after.)  I was not engaged yet, but knew we were going to get married.  Coincidentally, we got engaged shortly after I made my intro.   I didn't start planning until AFTER we were engaged.  In fact any idea I had about a 'wedding' went out the door early on in our relationship.  I just knew I wanted to marry him, be it on a beach, in a church or at the courthouse.

Nobody here is against NEYers being on the NEY board.  We are against planning a wedding when you are NEY.  Nobody is saying 'DON'T LOOK AT A SINGLE PICTURE OF A WEDDING OR YOU WILL BE CURSED.'  People are saying 'Enjoy this time with your boyfriend.  Nurture your relationship to prepare it for marriage.  Do not rush getting engaged by planning ahead of time.  It's a waste to plan without a true budget.  Don't get ahead of yourself by trying to solve dilemmas that aren't actual problems yet.  And if you are planning your wedding without being engaged, you might be BSC.  Oh, and being engaged is not contingent on having a ring.'

    Great article and attitude. <a href="#" title="Click to view a larger photo" onclick="return gSiteLife.LoadForumPage('ForumImage', 'plckPhotoId', '74f87b9b-4356-434a-a2fa-68b0a14fee93', 'plckRedirectUrl', gSiteLife.EscapeValue(window.location.href));"> <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/4/2/74f87b9b-4356-434a-a2fa-68b0a14fee93.medium.gif" alt="" /></a>

Heh, about a month (some persistent clicking will get you to the zip-tie tale eventually, the thread is still around somewhere). I was checking out my friend's dress picks for her wedding, and then started wandering around the boards...Now I'm just here for the entertainment!

You know, it's really not that difficult to track a person's email address via first and last name and sign them up for a plethora of unwanted email subscriptions to porn websites specializing in whipped cream and balloon fetishes. Just sayin'.

ps. Your brand of sarcasm isn't even bordering funny, it's more reminiscent of a 14 year old who's trying to piss off her mom by being snobby and whipping out her SAT practice vocabulary words.

Given that girls on this site have had weddings crashed, emails hacked, personal addresses posted online, etc. by giving away too much personal information and pissing off the wrong people, my logic isn't all that far off. We offer friendly advice (which we give to all girls that tread through the board with similar screennames, btw) to protect your safety online, not piss you off or subscribe you to balloon/whipped cream fetish porn.

Though, if you're into that sort of thing, feel free to piss off the Caribbean Nesties board, they could surely hook you up.

ps. Looking forward to tomorrow's game? Personally, I'm looking forward to watching Joakim Noah's trashtalking arse do the walk-of-shame back to Chicago, but that may just be me. ;)
