mini-honeymoon in New England?

Hi all,
I'm looking for any ideas of where to go for a short mini-honeymoon around CT or New England in October. My fiance and I are getting married in West Hartford and want to go on a short 3-4 day mini-moon right after the wedding (the big "real" honeymoon will be in the summer when we both have more time off work). We're looking for a nice hotel (possibly with a honeymoon suite?), ideally with things like a jacuzzi tub in the room and spa services. We'd probably enjoy someplace a bit local and quiet so we can just relax after the wedding - sleep late, maybe go for a nice fall hike somewhere and have a picnic. Not having to drive more than 3-4 hours away from CT would be great too. Any ideas?
Thanks so much!

  • I haven't been to these places but what about Litchfield hills - wine country, newport or providence RI? Rockport MA? Or Gloucester, MA? Those places would probably be beautiful in the fall!

  • Mystic, CT is a cute little town with lots to do- plus the casinos are only 20 minutes away if you want to visit them.

If you're in Hartford, Boston isn't too far of a drive- a little less than 2 hours if I remember correctly. It might be nice to go up and visit the city. It's not really "quiet town" but I love Boston so I had to mention it.

  • If you want hiking and spa stuff, you can also look into the catskills in NY.  A friend of mine did a spa weekend with her sister up there and it would be really nice fall foligage that time of year too!  There are definately lots of options!
  • Go on groupon or living social travel deals..they have tons of options for nice/high end hotels up our way.  Another option would be Cape Cod which is nice at that time of year.

  • The new england Fall foliage will be amazing in October! How about North Conway New Hampshire - its beautiful. Tons to do, you can take a nice ride through the mountains on the Kancamagus Scenic Highway. Go hiking, great restaurants, there are even some Outlet malls up there for some shopping. Its a major Ski area also.

I also just came across a great Escape Deal on Living Social that I was thinking about for my fiance and I for a few weeks from now in Jackson, NH which is in the North Conway area.

Another amazing New England city is Burlington, VT. We love it! It is the most beautiful, clean, and interesting little city - right on beautiful Lake Champlain. My mom and I went for a weekend a few years ago and fell in love. One of my favorite things was walking down along the water at sunset where they have a row of bench swings - you can sit and watch the beautiful sunset over the lake - in october with the foliage, I'm sure would be amazing!

P.S- The Ben and Jerry's factory is right outside of Burlington - Yum!

    Have fun researching!

Definitely second the recommendation for the White Mountains in NH (North Conway area, as mentioned above).  It's beautiful (especially that time of year), and there's plenty to do, if you want, or there are plenty of great little Inns and B &Bs if you want to just relax and do nothing.

And the Cape is always great.  Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown, especially, or Chatham.  Chatham Bars Inn is gorgeous and will be a little less pricey that time of year (still $$, though, but worth it for a honeymoon).
  • Block Island is also a beautiful place to visit, and it really feels like you are getting away when you go there. You can take the ferry from either New London or Naragansett. But I would suggest not only checking the ferry schedule, but checking that restaurants and businesses will still be open since October isn't their peak time of year. But I bet it will be beautiful in the fall.
  • I came across the Stone Hill Inn in Stowe, VT a few months ago when looking for a getaway with my fiance. It looks so nice and romantic, check out their site :)

The foliage in NH would be great at that time of year! Here’s one of our favorite hotels in the White Mountains

I’ve also heard that Cape Cod is beautiful in the fall (minus the fact that you cant swim at the beach).

Newport, RI is another great destination, (mansions, wineries, cliffwalk, etc)

    Have fun on your mini-moon!

  • I'm not sure off the top of my head what the rooms cost (but they are high, I'm sure of it) but The Ocean House at Watch Hill in Westerly, RI is one of my favorite places.

If you can splurge a bit and want to stay local, I highly suggest them. Thier Sunday Brunch is one of my all time favorite things ever :-)  They also have a spa and indoor pool but I'm not sure if they have jacuzzis in the room

  • Some of the ideas here are awesome, especially the Block Island and Mystic!  If you want to stay fairly close to home, check out the Quiet Corner (Northeast CT).  This site has some of the cool stuff to do here: http://www.tlgv.org/
