Dominican Republic or Jamaica?? CAN'T DECIDE!

We are looking into either Dreams La Romana, Dominican Republic or Beaches Sandy Bay, Negril, Jamaica.
I feel a lot better about going to Jamaica since they caught the drug lords, but I do not know anything about any of these resorts.
Did you or someone you know go to any of these? Please HELP!!

    I haven't stayed at either of those resorts, but have been to both islands, and I would pick Jamaica.  There's way more to do off the resorts in Jamaica, especially in Negril.

    (We are staying at Couples in Montego Bay.)

    I have been to DR though ~ and really did enjoy it.

    You can't really make a *bad* choice here....

    Been to both, thought the locals were nicer in the DR, but wasn't a huge fan of either island.

    I have not stayed in either of those resorts, but have been to both islands.  I went to DR for a week, and only left the resort once to do some local shopping.  They locals were VERY friendly!
    Jamaica was very pretty...we did Dunns River Falls and then went to Margaritaville (which was terrible!)  The locals around DRF were very rude and aggressive.  And they approached in the shopping area in the middle of a very public parking lot with several different types of drugs!  I never felt comfortable in Jamaica.
    BUT...I know several people who have gone there for their honeymoon and are dying to return!

    We are going to Secrets Santuary Cap Cana in DR for our Oct HM.  I've never been, but the pictures look AMAZING!  I can hardly wait.

    We're doing Couples Resort in Ocho Rios- leaving tomorrow.  I would highly recommend that chain since they cater to honeymooners.  Just a thought!

    We are getting our rooms through timeshares, so thats a big plus! 
    The only bad thing is they are both kid friendly, so hopefully its more relax then crazy loud. I do like the idea, though, that there are water slides and lazy rivers at the Beaches in Jamaica. And we are big kids at heart and LOVE that kind of stuff, so it will be perfect.

    Most of the kids at Dreams & Beaches will be away in the kids clubs so you probably won't even see much of them - lol!

    Hey, girl, I am Dominican, I've been in La Romana, not in the resort you said, but I have been in many resorts and the beaches in La Romana are wonderful.  I can't tell you about Jamaica, but I hardly recomend my country (except for Puerto Plata, don't invest your money going to Puerto Plata...).  Also we are very nice people ;)

    I would definitely vote for Dreams La Romana!  The Dominican Republic is such a gorgeous island and Dreams is an incredible resort!

    Dreams is a fantastic all-inclusive resort located on the south east coast of the DR.  The resort has the most beautiful beach to relax on as well as a spa, a casino and eight gourmet restaurants to pick from.  If you’re looking for a little adventure there are also tons of great activities at the resort like snorkeling, windsurfing, golfing and fishing excursions. 

    I absolutely love Dreams and I really think you will too.  I hope you check it out!

    Got engaged in Negril and am honeymooning in DR. Negril has the most beautiful sunsets. There were locals attempting to sell a few things by our resort, and we got asked a few times if we wanted to smoke ganja, but other than that, I felt completely fine.

    Side note- Negril is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from airport. FI does not want to go back simply because of that. I didn't mind it because you get to see lots of different parts of the country (some not so pretty). If you are going to DR, go to P. Cana.

    We are doing Jamaica...I've been to DR....La Romana, it was nice, but besides the beach, there isn't much...congrats and have fun with the planning :-)

    We went to Sandals Royal Carribean Montego Bay for our HM. We absolutely looooved and enjoyed in tremendously. I want to go back. The people are so friendly and we also met a lot of awesome couples just like us. I love the AI's, it is so nice not to have to worry about anything when you go out at night. I didn't even carry a purse when we were there!
