TOTALLY unrelated to weddings...

but, I imagine some of you own dogs.  If you're a dog owner, what do you have and why do you love the breed?  Good time to sing your doggy's praise!  I'm debating between what I've ALWAYS wanted - a Great Dane, or a German Shepherd  :)

  • We have a American and English Bulldog mix (lLola).  I love her.  She's amazing with our kids.  Truthfully she's FI's and I joke about her hair and her crazy antics but I love her.  A friend in college had a German Shepard growing up and got one herself when she rented a home.  Such sweet dogs.  Love those too.  No experience with Great Danes :)

  • We have a loving crazy shih tzu named Coco. I regret not naming her Bowie, after David Bowie since she has one blue one brown colored eyes. I really want a second dog, a big one, but since this is my hubby first dog experience, and we're remodeling our home, I need to wait a little longer.

  • I have 2 Siberian Huskies- one was a rescue and the other I got as a pup. My female is black and white with blue eyes and my male is a gray and white beast with blue eyes.

I also have 2 chihuahuas- both rescues.  We just adoped the second one 2 weeks ago.  One is a little brown and white toy applehead and the other is a brown and black reindeer.

I have never had a little dog before and didn't want the chihuahua at first.  Now I love him like crazy.  He's so sweet, fun and cute.  So now I have a second.  She is much older- about 8 years old.  She's still getting used to the house, but she's starting to play and be a part of the family.
  • I have a dachshund (Mary Jane) and my FI and I got a weimaraner when we got our house (Carter).  They are absolutely our children ;)

  • I have two dogs, our oldest (Pinto Bean) is a mutt.  He is half weenie dog and half Manchester Terrier.  I love him to death but he is so high strung.  He jumps straight up off of the ground with all 4 feet.  Thats how he got his name, because he is like a Mexican jumping bean.  He tries our patience on a daily basis.  He is almost 3 now so I keep thinking he will settle down! lol  Both he and his "sister" are rescues.

Our second dog (Cupcake) is a 5 month old brindle English Mastiff.  She is honestly one of the sweetest dog I've ever had.  She already weighs almost 60 lbs so she will be a big girl.  She is totally opposite Pinto Bean, she is calm and laid back and very rarely gets excited about anything.  We keep hoping she will teach her brother how to act! lol

    Here they are:

This was a month or so ago, Cupcake is bigger now

I grew up with a shih-tzu named Coco.  Bowie would have been such a great name, too!

I can't speak to larger breeds, as the OP mentioned.  For whatever reason, we've always ended up with smaller dogs.

We now have a Jack Russell, named Leia, which is not a breed I would have chosen, but we absolutely love her.  If we could rescue another, I would.  She is most definitely energetic, but also loves to cuddle.  She can run for hours, and has worn paths in our yard you can see from the satellite view in google.  As much as my FI hates that, he wouldn't trade the dog for anything.  We also rescued a mut, named Mace, and the vet guesses he's part Schnauzer.  He's lazy as can be, and doesn't get nearly as excited for company or doorbells as Leia does.

  • Thank you all for sharing :)  Cute!  Currently we own two kitties and a rat and I love them a ton, lol.  SouthernCutie, I would love to get a pitbull too, but I have so many friends and family that are so strongly against the breed that I fear we would be hated.  My ex husband is also STRONGLY against the breed and he'd probably insist on never letting my girls near me as long as I had it.  Sad that a breed of dog that is SO sweet, can cause so much hatred and ignorance.  Even chihuahuas can be dangerous if brought up improperly  :(

Maybe sometime in the near future, I too can post a picture of my new great dane baby!

Boxers are pretty cool dogs for sure!  Sorry you lost Elvis, but congrats on Cornelius  :)  I've done a lot of research on danes and although their health issues are a concern of mine, they still fit the bill for what I'm looking for.  Large sized so I can feel like I have a dog I can actually play with and not break! lol  And their activity level is pretty much on par with mine and my family's level.  We are active enough but still like our chill time too.

  • i love boxers as well.  pits get a bad wrap this girl is the sweetest thing ever.  i would trust her with kids i do know god have mercy on anyone that breaks in lol but i think that may be with most breeds.  your fam and FI need to research the breed and not go on public info cause most bites happen with lil dogs or labs but arent reported.  pits and rots are reported more so pple hear bout it more.

i take her pretty much anywhere she loves to ride
  • I've done a lot of research on many breeds that I'm interested in. :. That's why I get so frustrated by the ignorance that general public has about pitties. They used to be nursery dogs! And how can people look at those wonderful faces and not have their hearts just melt? Did u know Helen Keller owned one? :
