Fort Worth Main Street Festival vs My Wedding Reception

So I just found out that the Fort Worth Main Street Festival which takes place every year in downtown Fort Worth has been moved from the third weekend in April to the second weekend in April. We are having our wedding reception at The Ashton Hotel at 2PM April 10th. This coincides with the festival which causes Main Street to be closed down. The Ashton Hotel is located on Main Street.

We were going to go ahead and pay for all the guests to have valet parking but with Main Street closed I have no idea if they will even be doing valet parking at the hotel. And traffic in downtown will just be a complete nightmare now.

Do you have any suggestions on what we can do? We can't change our date because we have already paid for the Robert Carr Chapel and I am pretty sure that is booked for the next weekend in April already.

We have emailed our contact at The Ashton Hotel to get their advice on how to make this as smooth as possible. I just didn't know if anyone had any suggestions.

Thank you!

Well, I think the best you can do is know there is NOTHING you can do and try to have the best attitude about it! Paying for valet is a great idea! And work with the Ashton as much as you can, I'm sure they will be more than happy to accomodate anything for you and your guests.

And if you have any OOT guests, they will be thrilled to have something else to do after the reception. Look at it with a positive attitude - it might make your day even more exciting!

I'm not going to lie, it's a bit tough to get around FW during the festival. I think it's really nice of you to get  valet for your guests, but make sure you  let them know what's going on ahead of time so they are prepared as well.

I would probably map out a route that will work so they don't get stuck at all of the dead ends and street closures. The Ashton may have an idea how those will work, but you may also contact the city for additional information.

Is it possible for you to get transportation for everyone? I.e. a trolley or buses? I don't know if the cost will be any cheaper than valet, but at least everyone would arrive to the reception at the same time and it may decrease some stress levels, especially yours :)

    Best of luck, L

I agree with Emi.  I just got married on the 31st and it was TCU's homecoming, some festival was going on downtown AND it was Halloween.  And I loved it!  At first I was concerned but it ended up great because there were so many things to do and I loved the fact that the parade was going down University while we had our rehearsal on Friday night at RCC.  Our OOT guests loved it.  Don't sweat it, it is something not to stress out about, especially since it is out of your control.

Instead of paying for valet, have you thought about a bus or some other sort of transportation for your guests?  That might help get them all there at the same time and with no (or very little) frustration.

IF you can't do the trolley or bus, then spend some serious time researching with your hotel and with the city about street closures. Lynn is right, it's complete chaos down there (but much fun!!). Have information about getting to the reception in the program, and make sure that you have key people who know how to get there.

Beyond that, just roll with it. It's alot of fun and your gusts may really enjoy having something to do after the wedding.
