Rsvp yes, but not coming?

FI's relative rsvp'ed yes a few weeks ago, but we just heard from a family member that she's probably not going to show up. We aren't inviting children and apparently she is upset because her grandchild that she lives near isn't invited.
I think it's pretty disrespectful to say yes, but have no intention of coming. Anyone else deal with this and how did you handle it? I'm not going to hold a grudge or anything, but it unfortunately makes me not think the best of this person.

    It looks poorly on them, not you.  My sister did that at a wedding once, RSVPed yes for her and her douchecanoe boyfriend (at the time), then they decided not to go to the wedding. I was mortified for her, but she didn't seem to care.  I find it to be exceptionally rude to the bride and groom personally. Unfortunately you are the one out the money, but I'm not sure there is much you can do about it.

    Chalk it up to the "there will be no-shows from people who said they were coming" category.  Not much you can do.  You never know, she may change her mind and come.

    It's incredibly rude to RSVP yes if you have no intention of going. Unfortunatley, since she did say she's coming you have to do the adult thing and hope she comes through on her word.

    I mean, there isn't anything you can do.  It hasn't even happened yet so don't get all upset over a rumor.  There will probably be others who RSVP yes and don't show up in the end.  It sucks, but it happens.
