is this tacky?

we are getting married at the Rialto and we are trying to decide on a room block..  Our bridal party consensus is that we'd all like to get room at the casino hotel down the street.  Although i've never stayed there before, I hear it's nice.

Is it tacky to get a hotel block there?  I dont feel our families are that conservative but I just wanted another opinion.  I was thinking about getting a block at another hotel as well just in case.  Do people have blocks at more than one place?

hi there, first of all, great venue to choose! I am getting married there in Dec. My hotel block is at the Hampton which I stayed at and approved. I was worried at first.  The only issue is that I am having to pay for a shuttle to cart guests from hotel to reception site which is costly. I don't think having a casino hotel is that tacky though. There honestly is not much of a selection in Joliet.

Are most of your guests local? Do you think a lot of people will utilize the guest block? You can definitely get two blocks to offer a choice to your guests. Just check with the hotels on what your commitment needs to be and what the cut-off dates are if you are worried about some people judging so you can offer a 2nd block.

So if yours is tacky I am WAY over the limit.  I have four.  I have one in my neighborhood, one downtown, the Trump and one in Skokie.  I think it totally depends on your guests and their needs.

I think blocking rooms at 2 hotels is perfectly fine.  We have a handful of guests who really care that they are in a 4 or 5 star hotel and others who just want a soft bed and clean towels, so we will probably book at 2 hotels as well.

I don't think it is tacky at all.  Most casino hotels are really nice.

I don't think it's tacky. I think it would be a good idea to book a block there and at another place that's more conservative, so you can take care of the guests that might not want to stay at the casino.

I don't think it is tacky at all, in fact it makes the most sense since guests can almost walk there if they have too much to drink, however, they don't do room blocks unfortunately.  I tried.  I even had my Godmother who gambles there a LOT and gets several trips comped there each year... No dice.    We couldn't even get a suite there to get ready there!  (our reception was also at the Rialto)

There's no reason that you and your BP couldn't reserve rooms there on your own, but they won't do blocks for a group.  As pp already said, I would recommend the Hampton or Towneplace suites  they are both pretty nice inside.  Our block was at Wyngate by Wyndham because we couldn't find anywhere else, bc our wedding was on the same weekend as some huge race at the speedway and all of the hotels were already blocked by race teams.  I went and looked at the rooms and they are very nice, just remodeled, but the location is still pretty crappy.

I agree with Sparkette. That way guests have options if it's not somewhere they want to say but I don't think it would ever be considered tacky.

Not tacky. Two or three will give everyone a choice of price and things. I think it's considerate of you.
