  I see nothing wrong with black sash. I've seen and they have black bridesmaids gowns so why not. If you look at Davids, they have a whole section of dresses with sashes.  that's what they are there for and it ties you in to every one else.

  I would definitely go with the black sash!  I am also obsessed with sashes especially when there is a nice contrast.  Is the sash attached to the dress?  You could do what I'm doing, I have a 4" thick champagne colored sash for the ceremony and a 4" navy sash for the reception to add a little fun to the dress (bridesmaid dresses are navy).

  YOU have to wear it, not your bridesmaid. I don't understand what her "daughter" comment means ... I'm sure most of us wouldn't want to wear our mothers' dresses, even if they were very "traditional" for that time period. Get what YOU want.

  Isn't everyone going to look back at their weddings in 20 years and say, "Oh dear god, what was I thinking?"  Personally, I think yesterday's powder blue tuxes are today's pickup gowns.  Just get the dress you like today, don't worry about how it's going to look years down the line.

  Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married.   I am wearing a white lace dress with an ivory lining.  For the ceremony I am doing a wide ivory sash, and for the reception I am doing a black sash.  I plan to attach a flower, brooch, or feather detail to each sash.
