How would you want him to propose??

So i was reading some of the post on how women's FI proposed and It made me wonder how you would want him to do it if you could chose??  Would you want it to be at a restaurant, out of town, in public, private, or maybe more casual?? Let me know?

My Mom rented a beach house for my 30th birthday in NC and my whole family will be there.  We don't see eachother all that often (my family is scattered across the country) and I think it would be really special if he proposed while we were all there together...

I don't care how he proposes as long as its him. He I knows I would prefer he not do it when we are with people, I would rather it just be us but other than that I have no requests. Oh yeah and no holidays or birthdays

We had discussed this before we got engaged. I had a few requests.

    1. Don't spend a lot of money doing something crazy and "big".
    2. Don't tell any of my friends. I WILL figure it out. (II'm a very intuitive person so 'm very hard to surprise)
    3. Don't have a surprise party after. A lot of people around regionally do this. It was so overwhelming for all the women proposed to getting engaged and then having everyone and their mother screaming at you. (He actually brought this up, not me. But, I agreed).

One thing I would recommend to anyone - before you start calling everyone to tell the news, sit down and enjoy it. We had hot cocoa in front of our Christmas tree. It was probably 3 hours after until we started calling friends (we DID call our parents immediately though)! It was so nice to enjoy it together for a while before the craziness started.

Exactly the way he did.  I wouldn't change it for anything, and it was nothing outrageous at all.  Extremely simple and when he felt it was "the right moment" - which included me in my pj's and my hair a mess.  A moment I'll never forget as long as I live.

Maybe it's just me but thinking about this seems like a nice way to set yourself up for disappointment.

I think how ever my BF does it will be perfect, I am a lot more creative than he is, although he has told friends his plans and they say I will be pleasantly surprised but I like to work out puzzels, so instead I don't think about it and just go with the flow, as button says, I don't want to set myself up for dissapointment.

I agree with Buttons. I wouldn't think about it too much.

And, I don't think I've ever known anyone who didn't like their proposal. I mean, really.

I know he's already started brainstorming, and he has an little evil grin everytime the concept of proposing comes up, so I know he's really excited about whatever he's got in mind!  I did ask that it not be public, and that I prefer private special moments that mean a lot rather than over-the-top gestures.

I've fantasized that he'll do it over a game of Monopoly - we both love board games, and the night we first kissed he and I played Monopoly until 4am.  We've played dozens of times, and I've never won.  He beats me severely every single time.  We have seriously intense negotiations during the game: "Will you trade me Boardwalk for two reds?"  "Will you give me your blues if I give you Park Place?"  "Will you marry me?"

Laughing  I can't imagine ever being disappointed with how he chooses to do it, but if I were to propose to him, this would basically be how I would do it!

I agree that thinking about it too much will only set you up for disappointment. But I don't see a problem with your BF about some preferances. I've told my BF the preferances I said in my previous post but I trust him to propose in a way he knows I will love! He claims that it will blow my mind though.

ugh. what a day to see this thread! So, my sweet love decided to try to surprise me "big time"...... (btw, still not engaged)..... He is currently living in Dallas, Tx, and I'm in Atl, ga.... So, we see each other on weekends as much as possible and have taken some great vacations together... We grew up together, so it's nice to have had an intentional romance....

Anyway, I digress... He has been planning *long-distance* a big surprise for me, which I knew nothing about until yesterday when the world exploded.... Basically, I found out some extremely disturbing news about an old roommate of mine, and was having some anxiety about this.... then my good friend (who was in on the secret) called to ask me to help her with a dinner for the leaders in the church this weekend.... I said "no" because I was going to see the old roommate and figure out how to help, etc... Well, she became aggitated when I wouldn't change my plans (which I would normally do for her if she pleaded)... Well, I became extremely anxious, and called the BF....

He became frustrated that I wasn't going to change my plans either.... was not mean or anything, just seemed to care WAY too much about it..... btw, he wasn't supposed to be coming in town this weekend....

Anyway, long story not as long as it could be, when I explained the news with the old roommate, everyone relaxed and agreed I should keep my plans, but BF had to spill the beans that he was coming in town this weekend and was trying to surprise me...... DANG IT!!!!!!!

oh well, I know when it happens it'll still be wonderful and special.... I don't care how it's done.. just want it to be him and to share the moment together when we commit to be married! :)  ---- who knows, maybe he'll do it another night while he's in town.... he's got until monday evening..... cross the fingers ladies :) haha..

I purposely don't let myself think about how he would do it, because I want to be surprised. I only hope is that he knows better than to do it in front of a crowd of people. I don't like being the center of attention...though I'm sure I'll be the center of his attention at that moment, atleast it'd just be him (hopefully). Though, who knows, he could end up doing it in a crowded room and I might feel like we're the only two people there. I imagine you never really know what to expect or how you'll feel until it happens.

I wouldn't change anything about our proposal - I never really thought too much about HOW I wanted him to propose - I just wanted him to propose because he wanted to marry me. Besides if it was any different I wouldn't have tried to 'wind up' my ring because I thought it was a music box

We travel a lot, a little part of me thinks that he may surprise me on one of our trips. Though I'm no longer getting my hopes up, as I was convinced it would happen in Paris last July. I've since realized that going into a trip expecting a ring is a perfectly good way to ruin what would have otherwise been a great time.

My boyfriend apparently knows how he's going to do it, and always get this little smirk when he talks about it. He did say it would be in front of our closest family members, which leads me to believe it would be some sort of holiday when the two families are together

Whatever it is, though, I'll be happy, as long as it isn't something like "Marry me, bitch."

My BF keeps telling me he's going to throw the ring at me while I'm watching tv and say "so what do you think?"  he's very romantic like that. lol
But I really don't care how he does it. EXCEPT (and I've told him this): not in front of a big crowd and absolutly not at work (we work at the same company, different departments), and he's very agreed on those 'cause he doesn't like being the center of attention either.

My BF says this too, but he purposly says things to throw me off his trail. One day he was going to do it in CT, then WA then before next July but then before christmas, but I will only see him in August, and either December or March before next july and only August will be in CT...it makes my head hurt trying to think about it and I don't want t ruin what little time we get together by anticipating something that might not happen for a while

Not in front of my family, or a bunch of people. At home would be fine, but I'm really not choosy except for the first 2 things listed. And he knows it. Granted, it wouldn't be like him to make it a big public thing anyway.
He pretty much had me at "hello".

It doesn't matter how he proposes. I did want to(and still do) know when because I don't like surprises, but he really wants it to be a surprise.

I don't really care how he does it. All I really want is for it to be just us (no crowds). Ideally I'd like him to do the one knee thing and actually say, "Will you marry me?" But as long as he says SOMEthing sweet I'd be thrilled.

Ours was so unromantic, but it was perfect for us and where we are with our relationship.  We were going to go to the courthouse first thing on Monday and just do it, but decided we should probably tell our parents first... and they insisted on a "real" wedding.  I'm glad we took that weekend to ourselves and didn't tell anyone until Monday, though.  It was really nice to just relax and enjoy it.
