I am pro-choice, but my personal choice would be no. How's that for unconvenional?

And it's not because I believe a fetus is entitled to the same protections as a living breathing human being (I don't - I believe the baby becomes a baby when it can live outside the womb), it's because I know the risks of engaging in sex and that's a risk I accept. Just like people who have sex without a condom with multiple partners shouldn't be surprised when they end up with an STD - it's their own fault.

But for girls who are raped, or victims of incest? Or when the mother's life is at risk if she carries the baby to term? Absolutely. I don't judge a woman's reasons for why she wants an abortion, but I do think that people who have multiple abortions and treat it as birth control should be sterilized.

I hope you're never in a position where you need a helping hand Jelique. The biggest cause of homelessness is mental health disorders, and many homeless are veterans.

Aprove-My old vet refused to do it. The rescue recommended it, and he said absolutely not. He said that it is not safe to put a foreign body under the skin, and that they can move and cause health issues.

Ehhh that scares me. I wanted a way to track all of my dogs/puppies. I refuse to tattoo. Mine are microchipped and my number is permanently on file. Will be calling vet in the morning.

He is the only vet that I know who holds that opinion. Two other vets told me it was fine, but he freaked me out enough that I didn't do it.

Nope, not the norm. Which is why it's a stupid argument for illegalizing abortion. But there are a few, and that's wrong. It's like welfare - many people on welfare genuinely need it and are hardworking people who fell on bad times. But there are people who abuse it, and they give the rest a bad name and make the system disfunctional.

Speaking of sex and abortion and kiddies, anyone see "The Secret Life of the American Teenager"? I've never seen such glorification of teenage sex and pregnancy. I get what they're trying to do, but every time it comes on TV, my boyfriend says, "Is that the show about all the slutty teenagers again?"

I actually volunteer at a soup kitchen and a lot of those people have some deep mental issues that don't allow them to hold jobs.

Jas I've also heard that about microchipping. Also the risk for infection or the pet's body rejecting the microchip resulting in a major infection.
My big thing with the microchip being required would be deciding what microchip to use. There are many different ones and not all vets/shelters can read all chips. Also if you have the breeder's info on the microchip then if anything happened to the dog (like lost, stolen, etc) the breeder would be called instead of the owner. If the breeder info always stayed with the dog I would feel like I was renting one instead of having it as my own.

That being said, I completely agree that breeders should keep up with their pups as well as accept them back in if the person cannot keep the animal. Same with rescue orgs.

I'm late to the game, but I don't have a desire to buy a house. Now or in the possibly next 5-10 years. I get the tax breaks and equity arguments. I still don't want to do it. The thought terrifies me. I hate that owning a home has become the measure of grown up-ness, maturity, and responsibility, when clearly, there are thousands of idiots who bought houses, lost them, and fvcked it all up for the rest of us.

I get that the market is greeeeeat right now for buying a house, and I'm married and that's what I'm "supposed" to do, but lay.the.fvck.off, people.

Ricks- That is the case with the majority of homeless men and women. There are also countless women and children that are homeless due to abuse and other unfortunate circumstances.

I think it's rather callous to act as if all homeless people are lazy.

I only say that because at least where i live there are so many opportunities for them to get help! There are shelters they can go to and places where they can get food. I think its wrong to stand on the corner with your 3kids and your fat dog and steal money from people when they really want alcohol or drugs. There are plenty of places they can go to besides the corner of target to get help.

Yay I actually had a unpopular opinion. I win.

I have actually seen people stand on the corner and say "Anything will help, please donate so I can buy a pack of beer". Its funny but its so wrong!

If it weren't for my grandmother being awesome my family would have been homeless when I was 5. We were stranged in the US during Desert Storm while everything we had, minus 1 suitcase with clothes, was in Kuwait. No bank account, no vehicle, no jobs, no house, nothing. My parent's couldn't get a job because they had no address to put on the application, no car to get there, and no clothes for interviewing. They couldn't get a place to live because they had no job. No job = no money to buy anything. It really is a horrible cycle that you can't break out of.

We ended up living with my grandparent's in their 2 bedroom house for 8 months, buying a car on a credit card, and my dad practically conned his way into getting a teaching job at a local community college. Mom sold Mary Kay.

Also, there is only so much homeless shelters can do for the homeless, especially now with the economy. These places depend on donates. Money doesn't magically appear.

Jelique- If you have schizophrenia, or ptsd, or a myriad of other problems, you aren't in a position to go to a shelter and get help. It's not as simple as you may think.

I agree that alcoholism is a problem, but it's usually a response to the symptoms of an underlying mental disorder.

I don't know how they did it, or how they picked up afterwards. I knew that things were going on because mom cried a lot and we had to live with grandma, but otherwise was in the dark.

I remember being 6 and telling dad I was going to invent a little bomb and I was going to call Saddam and bomb him for stealing all my toys...ah 6 year thoughts.

I realize this. I mostly have a problem with the people who bring their kids or pets to sit on the corner with them for hours on end.

I have been homeless before! My dad was an alcoholic and spent all his money on alcohol and couldn't pay the rent so we got evicted. I have spent nights in motels and in cars and at friends houses and once in the bathroom of a public park so I have sympathy for these people but I hated sitting on the corner begging for money and I think it is wrong and if you cant afford to have a place to stay or food to eat you should not bring a child along. There was plenty of things my dad could have done but chose to beg instead. Other people should not have given him money. It is not their responsibility to help him get back on his feet.

Yes I am young but I am not oblivious on how the world works. Do I know everything? Not even close, I just have my opinions.

Steph, my parents are actually both teachers. Things weren't paying so well in Wisconsin and dad talked to a recruiter who needed teachers to work at an American school in Kuwait. The pay was ridiculously awesome so he and mom said sure. We moved over there when I was 5, I believe in August '89. We always came home for the summer to visit relatives, go to the dentist etc, and when we came home in '90 there were rumblings about Iraq going over the border. One day dad got the call that Iraq had officially invaded and the country was occupied, no people were being allowed to return or leave the country and we were stranded in Minnesota.
When they opened the country back up after the US kicked some butt we went back to help rebuild. It was really incredibly scary but I'm glad that we did. It did leave a lot of emotional scars on me though, even though my parents did their best to prevent it. Dh and sometimes joke that I have more war stress than he does, and he's the Marine!

Give them to someone who can take care of your kid. Family or the state or a friend or something. Anything would be better than taking them with you to suffer. Yes it would suck knowing you child will be a ward of the state but if you cant take care of them then you have to think of what's best for the kid.
