XP: Nails?

Do any of you get fake nails regularly?  I'm going to get my nails done for the wedding and I've noticed that there are several different types of nail treatments you can have.  So, which type do you suggest?  How often do you have to have them filled?  Etc... I've never had my nails done, so I'm a bit oblivious.

TIA

Re: XP: Nails?

  • I've never had acrylics/fake nails because I think they can be hard on the nails and can be painful to get off if you don't do it correctly.

I personally prefer the Shellac or Gel manicures. It's just like a regular polish and goes on natural nails, then gets cured under a UV light. It is dry by the time you leave the salon and stays chip-free for about two weeks. I got it done for my wedding and it looked nice througout our HM.

  •  I dont usually get my nails done. But I am thinking of getting white tips.
  • For anyone trying to grow their nails out I STRONGLY reccomend "hard as hoofs" nail cream. My nails grow so fast, I am constantly filing them down. It is like 4 or 5 bucks most drugstores, Walmart, Target etc. It comes in a little green container, and it well worth the money.

  • Avoid acrylics at all costs! I used to get them when I was younger and they destroyed my nails.  It took several years for them to get back to normal.  For my wedding, I grew my nails as best as possible and then had a shellac manicure.  It lasts a lot longer than a typical manincure and not much more expensive.

I get my nails done all the time, and its true, acrilics do damage your nails a bit. and you have to make sure to get them taken off at the salon. do not try to pop them off, it is painfull and desrtoys your nails. there is very little damage if you have them soaked off like you are supose to.
I like the way they look, make sure to ask for rounded corners. and dont be afraid to ask them to fix somthing if you dont like it, after all you are paying for it. Most people need to have them filled every 3 weeks. My nails grow extremely fast so its more like every 2 weeks for me, but i usually just let them grow out and then have them replaced. If your nails grow slow like most peoples, you can get your nails done as early as 3 days before the wedding and they should still look perfect. If your nails grow fast like mine, or you are just worried about breaking them (which is actully really hard to do) then i would say get them done the day before. Lastly, the clear tips(which they paint) shouldnt cost you anymore than $25. and white tips(which is what alot of brides get because it ends up looking like a french mannicure) should cost about $30. Dont let people over charge you!

    I hope this helps!
