BM Gifts - Would you like this?

I've read all of the posts that say to give gifts as if you're giving a B-day or Christmas gift, that not all gifts have to be the same, and to make sure to gift something that each would like and use. I've been racking my brain trying to come up with something and I think I finally have it. If you were a BM, would you like this gift?

A nice basket (one that can be used again) with a restaurant gift card, a movie gift card, a mani/pedi gift card, your favorite bottle of wine and a note that says "Thank you for sharing my special day with me. Please enjoy a special day for you on us!" (or something like that)

What do you ladies think???

Re: BM Gifts - Would you like this?

  • i would but this is all stuff that I love.  Do all of your BMs love these things also?

  • I personally hate mani/pedis and don't drink wine.  But if it's something you think they'd like as a Christmas/birthday gift, then they'll like it as a BM gift.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I would LOVE to get that gift.
  • Can I be your BM?  Tongue out
  • I don't get manis or pedis ever, so while the basket isn't my taste, I like where you're going with your gift.
Another thing about manis and pedis, my friends who do get them are very particular about where they go. If I were to do something like that, I'd have to make sure the gift cards were from the places they went to.
Same thing with the wine. if any of the girls don't drink wine, maybe you can replace it with something they would drink.

All I'm saying is, you know your girls better than we do, so make sure you're giving them things they can use, ya know?

  • I had that same idea!  I think it's great!  They've spent a lot of time and energy on your wedding so to get to relax and have their own time with their SO will be great!
  • As long as each girl likes those things, I think it's a great gift. I would personally love that gift but I like going to the movies, drinking wine and going to the spa. If someone didn't favor those things, it wouldn't be a good gift, KWIM?

Ditto PP that if they do regularly get a mani or pedi I would find out the salon and get the GC there. Same for making sure you know what kind of wine each girl drinks.

[QUOTE]Assuming you aren't planning for the mani/pedi GC to be used for your wedding, I think this is a lovely gift and very generous.  Now, personally I don't do mani/pedis (find them torturous), so if you have BMs who aren't into that stuff, you might think about individualizing that particular gift card (mani/pedi for the salon addict, bookstore for the reader, etc), or just going with the first two GCs. But, even if I got this gift exactly as it is, I'd be more than grateful since I'd enjoy 90% of it, and I'd just find someone to give the mani/pedi GC to.

This.  I don't do manicures or pedicures, so that would be a waste of money for me.

  • In general, I think that's a great gift idea.  But you know your girls better than we do, so just make sure they would definitely use this type of stuff.  For me, switch the mani/pedi to a massage, make it white wine, and a restaurant/theatre you know I attend and it sounds perfect!

  • Thanks for the responses!! Punky, you're welcome to join! :)

All of my girls drink wine and get mani/pedi regularly so I know that they will use all of the things in the basket. I just wasn't sure if this would be enough. As for using the mani/pedi GC, I don't expect them to use it for the wedding. The gifts will be given the night before the wedding so I expect them to use it at their own leisure. I was really trying to come up with something that they would enjoy and be able to use. I would have hated to get something "bridesmaid-y" and have it sit in a closet.

Thanks again for the input! :)

  • Oh and the restaurant gift cards - I'm going to get a Phantom Gourmet Gift Card... It's a gift card that they can use at over 1000+ restaurants all over New England. That way they can choose the restaurant and it can be somewhere close to them or (they all travel to Maine during the summer) somewhere on vacation.

  • Yup, I'd say your gift sounds totally and completely awesome. Very thoughtful!

  • I'd like that.

That sounds like a lot of gift cards. If you are going that route, I would make sure there is enough on each to actually use it without her having to dip into my own pocketbook (I'd prefer a $50 gc to one thing v. a bunch of $15 ones).  Just a thought.

Also, rather than a movie gift card, if you buy a book of them some places will give you a little bit of a discount (some employers also offer discounted passes as well if you work for a bigger company).
  • I only have 3 BM's so the Phantom (restaurant) Gift Card will be $75 while the movie will be $20 (although maybe I'll nix this) and then the mani/pedi. I know that they all go to the movies and since 2 of them have children, I thought that it would be a nice date night for them and their hubbys.

Seeing how much (with the exception of mani/pedi) you all like this, I'm excited to give it to them. I really appreciate all of your inputs!! :)
