Dessert reception help

I am starting to make preliminary plans for my dessert reception (about 100 people). I want to have a good variety but have never been to one of these before so I am not sure what people do. Has anyone had one of these who would be willing to share what/how much they had? Thanks!

I would plan to have 100 of everything. Here's some ideas:

Chocolate fountain with fruit/marshmallows/etc
Sundae bar with all sorts of topping (crushed oreos, fruit, cereal!)
Petit fours and the like
cupcake decorating table maybe?
or just cupcakes.
cookies!

there are endless possibilies.

If you are serving alcohol, I would add a few finger foods to this. A cheese and cracker table, or fruit table.

* Build your own sundae
* Cookies and milk station
* Candy bar

definitely add cheese and fruit because a lot of people dont eat sweets or wont want to eat more than one thing.
im having a chocolate fountain at our reception (bc its included in our package) but we are having an adults only wedding. i would be weary of including this if there are young children- chocolate will literally be everywhere.
i like one of the PPs ideas of a sundae bar.

I like the cupcake decorating station...no worries about cupcakes melting :0) I think the finger food is also a good idea...some people are diabetic and may not be able to eat sweets...or have a smaller table with sugar free items might be a cute idea too :0)

Thanks for the ideas. I really like the petit fours and have been wondering for a long time if they will fit my budget. I am having a Victorian wedding and really like the classy little cakes. So pretty! I'm not sold on the make your own stations. I don't want to make my guests do anything themselves and I don't think it does with my theme. What I really need to know is how much stuff to get. Does a person get 100 servings of everything?

You want to have enough for each person to have at least one of everything. A fresh fruit & cheese tray is a great addition to the sweets. A chocolate fountain or 2 (1 milk & 1 dark) is a good idea, I would have angel food cake, marshmallows, apple slices, and strawberries.

What about:

mini-cupcakes

homemade marshmallows

Gingerbread men & ladies

Cream puffs

Baklava

Fruit tarts

Mini key-lime pies

A Coffee Bar

Brownies

Mini-cheese cakes

Wedding cookies - the ones with ground nuts & a lot of powdered sugar

a coffee bar is a great idea! And your cake needs to be the showcase here.
you could have various types of creative truffles, candy, etc

Echos of PPs:

Mini cookies and shotglasses of milk.
Petit Fours.
Fruit and cheese tray.
Coffee bar.
Port or cognac station (dessert drinks).
Gourmet Popcorn.

Have a variety of tastes, not all sweet. Fruit, cheese and popcorn cut the sugar factor.
