On this weeks menu..

What's on your menu for this week? I need ideas. (and this board is slow..)

Re: On this weeks menu..

  • I'm bad at planning meals in advance. I mostly figure them out the day of. It never works out too well then :P

I made this chicken and dumplings recipe yesterday and it's awesome:
    http://www.bubblecrumb.com/2010/02/14/crock-pot-chicken-and-dumplings-recipe/

H is obsessed with eggs so this egg muffin recipe will probably make a return too, plus it's super easy:
    http://allrecipes.com/recipe/scrambled-egg-muffins/

And I made this last week too. It was bangin'. Sweet and sour chicken:

Any certain kinds of recipes you are looking for?

  • I'm also bad at planning meals in advanced (unless I am off that day..) Not looking for anything in particular, just ideas. That sweet and sour chicken looks yummy.
  • Last night we had three bean chili made in the crock pot.  Tonight is black bean lentil soup made from scratch.

The rest of the week we either have plans to eat out or we'll just have leftovers.

  • I'm really bad at planning meals as well, but am trying to get better!  Tonight is Brats and something else.  Don't know yet.

One night this week will probably be something pork chop related.  Another night will be chicken related.  One night might be hamburger helper to use up our hamburger helper.  Another night may be spaghettie.  Saturday we're going over to his aunts and uncles.  Sunday, I'll eat whatever since he works all day.

  • beef stew tonight; Vhati closes, and slower cooker meals are great when he doesn't get home till 8:30.

Chicken tomorrow I think; probably Chicken Mexi-Parm as I call it.  Its like Chicken Parm, but with Mexican spices and salsa instead of pasta sauce.

I'm making pasties on Wednesday in honor of Burns night; the traditional meal is Haggis, but I don't have access to any, and have never tried it, and I'd rather go with something I know me and Vhati like.

Thursday and Friday are still up in the air.....but one night will be chili, just not sure which night.

Gotta try and convince Vhati to made do either Chinese or go out for Sushi or try the Vietnamiese place our friends keep raving about some night....in honor the Lunar New Year (I take any excuse to do have Asian food....my usualy excuse is "Well, its <INSERT DAY HERE />")

  • Last week we had chili and pork chop recipes.

This week it is homemade mac & cheese, and a sauage, onion, pepper mixture. It was pretty good.  We will also have homemade pizzas sometime this week.

  • I'm bad at planning meals in advance. Sundays I go food shopping for the week but just normally buy the staples and see what happens. I don't do anything from scratch.

Tonight the plan is for burgers. Tuesday - Thursday is either steak, chicken cordon blue (its frozen) and tacos. It all depends on my mood.

  • I made this cilantro lime chicken over the weekend for tacos and it turned out great!!!  We had left-overs tonight.  I also made a ham with this glaze over the weekend, so that's another night of left-overs.

We're having grilled tilapia tomorrow (H makes it with lime, salt and pepper...SO good!).  We'll probably have spaghetti one night, it's a fave in our house!  And there's a frozen pizza in the freezer, so I'm guessing we'll have that.  I might make some sloppy joes one night.

Next weekend, I really want to make either a roast or french dip sandwiches.  I've been wanting them for weeks!!  I just found this new french dip recipe too, though I usually use a bottom round roast.

We've been meal planning since we moved in together. It was something my parents always did, and I got into a habit of doing it for just myself when I lived by myself. H's parents never did it, but he really likes doing it this way.

This week's menu includes salmon patties, meatloaf in the slow cooker (recipe here... although we split it into 4 servings instead of 6), turkey meatball subs, smoked turkey sausage, green beans, and potatoes (you just throw them all in a pot together and let it cook... H loves it), lasagna, BBQ chicken, and beef tips in gravy and noodles.

In the past we didn't plan so many meals a week, but in order to be healthier, we've been eat out a lot less.

I'm looking forward to trying some of the recipes on here! We're like trying to vary things up.

My parents made this a lot when I was younger and I loved it. I mentioned it once to H and he looked at me like I was insane. I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes this! haha

I grew up on it, too! H had never heard of it until I made it for him. If I remember correctly, he was a bit hesitant of trying it that way when I first brought it up, but as soon as he had it, he loved it.
