New York-Hudson Valley

Non-Cheesy DJ

Do any of you ladies have a recommendation for a non-cheesy wedding DJ in the Hudson Valley?

Things I'm NOT looking for: A mic hog, blow up guitars, laser light show, plasma screen. I appreciate that some people are into that sort of stuff, but my venue is small and my wedding is intimate, non-traditional, and low-key, not a raging party.

We inquired about The DJ Solution, but they're booked for our date, so any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you!

DJ Bri Swatek/ Spinning with Style. He did an awesome job and is exactly what you (and we) were looking for!

I used The DJ Company and they were far from cheezy.  Great on the mic, no giveaways, and very good at playing requests.

Also reviewed on here alot is DJ Bri Swatek, Jimmy Dee & The DJ Solution (who you said was already booked)

Gary Whittaker - Strictly Entertainment DJs.  Fantastic DJ / MC.  Huge music catalog and no blow up things unless you want them.  Very affordable too.

They will perform how you ask them to. If you don't want the spot light on you all night long they will be sure to accommodate your taste.

<div>I think most of the suggestions on here are more on the cheesy side.  We used Turntable Events and have seen them at a number of other weddings, each time they were fantastic.  They use vinyl turntables which is a cool throwback and they really knew how to mix it up.</div><div>
    </div><div>Best of luck</div>

I am all for recommending your vendor, but please refrain from making comments on the vendors other people have chosen and were/are happy enough with that they would want to recommend them.

I was just thinking the same thing...if you had some sort of interaction with a vendor and it wasn't favorable (even if you didn't book them), that is one thing...but really...

Regarding the poster plugging Turntables...did anyone else notice that she (and the other posters on that initial posting about that DJ) are all fairly new to posting on the knot?

I hate to be so suspicious....

Note to Pezaddict - I already recommended the DJ that we used for our wedding. He did a great job. This follow-up post is due to all the recent comments that were not very positive and inspiring.

Pezaddict - GO TO A BRIDAL SHOW!!!! That way you will be able to meet with a bunch of DJ's in a short amount of time and will get a chance to quickly get a glimpse of their personalities and whether you want their personalities at your wedding.

    Coming up:

Saturday, Jan 29 - Westchester County Center in White Plains

Sunday, Jan 30- Dutchess Manor in Beacon

Sunday, Feb 6- Anthony's Pier 9 in New Windsor (famous SuperBowl Sunday bridal show)

Thursday, Feb 10- The Radisson Hotel in New Rochelle

Sunday, Feb 27 - The Links in LaGrangeville
ALSO Sunday, Feb 27- DoubleTree Hotel in Tarrytown

Definitely check out Tim Reynolds.  Nice and low key, his equipment is sleek and doesn't take over the space, and he seemed like a real good guy.

<div>Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone.... I did have some not-so-great interactions with some staff from Jimmy Dee and The DJ company at a bridal show when we were first looking at vendors for our wedding and have seen them at some of my friends weddings.  In terms of performance, I wasn't very impressed with Jimmy Dee but the DJ Company was ok.  </div><div>
</div><div>I've actually been on this site for awhile (used it to plan my wedding) but I had to re-register after someone hacked my account (my emails were hacked too, very annoying!).   </div><div>
</div><div>I agree with Terriandjoe, bridal shows are a good place to meet some vendors and eliminate others.  Hence, my previous comment :)</div><div>

I have a **very low** cheese threshold. I was adamant ours be cheese-free. My DJ is based in Brooklyn, but traveled to Orange County for our wedding:

I loved our dj and one of the reasons we chose him was because he was professional, not cheesy, and just geniuely loves his job,

Much Music by Larry Mulligan.  He was awesome!!!!!!
