Color concept needs help!

Hey Knotties,
I am new to the boards and in super planning mode even though the actual wedding won't happen for quite some time.  I am having trouble with colors and my fiance is so busy she is not much help... We agree on purple but her favorite color is orange and mine is green.  I would like to incorporate all three into our wedding (summer at a vineyard/winery) Do you think that those three will be too much?-E

Re: Color concept needs help!

  • If your bio is correct and your wedding isn't for 4 years, I'd honestly hold off on manking any style of design decisions yet.  Chances are better than good that you'll change your mind a dozen times in the next four years.  Trends in weddings change, and colors that designers offer change.

Seriously, just enjoy being engaged now.  Plan big things like your budget, but leave style and design for at least 2.5-3 years.

    Congrats on your engagement.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Welcome to the board and congratulations on your engagement!  Colors are so hard to choose!  Purple and orange together make me think festive Halloween, but I love the idea of the purple and green.  Maybe she could wear a pair of orange pumps under her dress?  If you're both planning on carrying bouquets,  she could carry an orange and purple bouquet while you carry a green and purple one.

Your thoughts on colors might also change when you find your venue.  The decor there might inspire you.

  • Depending on the shades of those three colors, they can be done rather succesfully together. For instance, my colors are burnt orange, chartreuse green, with the occasional hint of dark plum. That particular combination definitely screams autumn, though, (my wedding is in October) so I'm not sure how coherent that would seem in the summertime.

But, like the first pp said... if you're wedding is that many years away... don't feel like you need to make this decision now.
  • I would hold off untill it was closer to the date to figure it out.

  • Definitely wait to decide. But, I am partial to purple & green, as our colors were purple & teal/aqua with silver accents. I am not sure about the orange without seeing some pics, but maybe you could compromise and choose a third neutral accent color like silver or black or ivory.
