Kiki...

How is the house situation going?  If it makes you or your husband feel any better I just checked my credit score, which I have been terrified to look at.  After the short sale and after the foreclosure of the property I inherited in Michigan, my credit score is still 675!!  It is actually higher than when I bought the house...can't figure that one out.  See...short sales are not that bad to your credit.

  • Funny you ask, sascha.  We've been talking a lot about it the last couple of days (since the lovely murder-suicide about 100 yards from our house).  We still have no idea what to do.  B is really scared to walk away because of the credit thing- he's worried that if he loses his current job, he won't be able to find another.

I'm really urging him towards stopping paying the mortgage, putting that money towards other debt, and seeing what the bank does. If they offer us a short sale, we'd probably try and work with them to do that.

  • Whoa...didn't know about the murder suicide!  Scary!

Many times you can even start a short sale process without going behind on your payments for long.  Some I have seen only miss 2 months, minimizing the hit to your credit score.  I would find a local real estate agent if I were you and just come in with your concerns and set up a game plan.

  • That's a good idea.  I definitely want to talk to an expert in these things so we're not too surprised.  Glad to hear it didn't totally kill your credit!
