Seating the Officiant and his Wife

I know it is customary to have the ceremony officiant (a Pastor) and his wife at the table with the bride or groom's immediate family. But what if he and his wife are friends with other guests at the reception? Would it be rude to seat him at a table with his friends instead of the bride or groom's family?

    In your case, I think it makes complete sense to seat them with his friends. I think that the best place to put the officiant is with immediate family if they don't know anyone else at the wedding or already know the family. I think you have an exception here. I'm sure he and his wife will have a good time at the reception being seated with friends.
