Omfg

So work is going pretty well. Except that the person that I was hired to replace is still here. She thought she had a job somewhere else, but has now decided she wants to stay. So until they figure out whether it's possible to keep us both (it's been made very clear that I'm not going anywhere, so I'm not worried about that), we're both at the reception desk. With one phone and one computer. So this is day three of mostly sitting on my ass, listening to the original receptionist biitch about having no money, while drinking her Starbuck's froufrou coffee and eating her starbuck's sausage biscuit. And telling me how she got a new outfit for the Christmas party tonight. She's long on nice and short on brains, and I've resorted to posting from my phone, as I have nothing else to do right now. So hi! What are you doing?

  • OMG.  Dude, that sucks.  So, what's going to happen?  Are they going to make her someone's personal assistant or something?

  • Ugh that makes for a VERY long day...

Think you can ask someone if they need help elsewhere?  Just thinking if they see you doing nothing and her doing the work they may change their mind.

BTW why the heck is she still there and why would they want her?  She wanted and technically did quit now changed her mind?  I'd be like sorry - you gave notice.

  • Well that sounds lovely.  Hopefully they figure out what they're going to do with her soon.

    I'm sitting here procrastinating.  Typical.

  • I really don't know. The guy who hired me said there was a possibility of an opening in another department and that they'll put me there and keep the original girl as the receptionist. So yeah. It's kind of weird. But really, who the eff gives notice that they got another job that they don't actually have?

  • OMG I feel for you. I don't know what I would do all day without a computer. That is a big reason I put up with my job right now... it could be a lot worse. :(

That's crazy that she was like "oh nevermind!"
  • Oh that blows LC. I too am surprised they didn't tell her to peace out when she quit, then changed her mind.

  • Remind her how well that worked for Farvruhruhruh in Green Bay.

  • Hah.  That's a very lenient kind of office they have there.  Glad you're here to talk to us though.  An Italian guy once said that the receptionist in his office had "two brain cells in two separate rooms and they don't talk to each other." Sounds like it works for this girl too.

Maybe she thought they would be all OMG don't leave us and give her a raise or something. She probably had some motivation behind it.

That's so weird that they let her stay.  I'm sure she's been hogging the phone and computer right?  I'm with pps, I'd see if someone has something for you to do so that you can prove you are indispensible!

And I don't think I've ever seen sausage biscuits at Starbucks!

For serious! The ones in Chile have "Christmas muffins" right now, which are basically chocolate muffins with weird cherry and pineapple chunks in them. I would much prefer a sausage biscuit.

Lucas really wants to know who actually eats fruit cake. He is always fascinated by them in the grocery store but never buys one. He figures someone must eat them if they keep making them.

  • Ew, I wouldn't eat that either Em.  There's no Starbucks here.  Except in the CPH airport, and I won't pay those prices for that stuff.  I'm no longer a 'Bucks fan!
  • A friend of mine gave notice before he passed the background check for a new job - he was offered the job contingent on background check and references.  He failed to tell them about his DUI (from 4 or 5 years ago) and they rescinded the job offer.  He was out of work for almost a year.  We all told him he was an idiot for giving notice before it was official, but he was so desperate to leave that he jumped the gun.
  • I didn't know until today that Starbuck's had sausage biscuits either. I really have been trying to do as much as I can without sitting in the other chick's lap to prevent her getting to the phone first. I'm sincerely hoping they decide I'm overqualified for the receptionist spot (they've already said as much) and stick me somewhere else.

  • LC, I'd definitely do as someone else mentioned, and ask around to see if you can help.
  • LC, that is awful. Why did they even let her come back? I would think that once you leave you are gone forever. I can't imagine going back to work after giving notice. At least that means your employers are probably nice people. Maybe a little too nice.
  • Has anyone ever tried Subway breakfast? It tastes like cardboard.
  • Definitely an awkward situation.  I'm shocked they let her stay/come back after giving notice.  Of course, I don't understand the thinking of most employers right now.
    Anniversary
  • dude I spent 3 months at my old job after giving notice.  After 2 weeks I was off all of my cases.  But instead of bugging everybody at work I started posting on the knot!

if i may whine.....its sooo cold in my office.

Yeah, not filling at all.  Unfortunately I ordered them to go along with my breakfast sandwich AND hash brown bites <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-embarassed.gif" border="0" alt="Embarassed" title="Embarassed" />
