In Response to Re: What do you think about this ring? : Yay for you? But for some people, myself included, $2,200 is a crap ton to drop on a ring. One of the ring settings I like is $750 and THAT'S a lot of money to me. I do think you had good points, i.e. how are they going to be able to afford a wedding and the whole wanting two dresses when the ring is out of their budget, but for a lot of people that isn't a modestly priced ring...
    Posted by deburnin
$2200 is modest for an e-ring. Head on over to SB. I think there was a recent poll about the price of rings. I don't think there is anything 'wrong' with spending $2200. You spend what you can afford, and ideally in a range that both people are comfortable with. However, I do not think that personal financial situations change what is modest.

I will be honest and say that I think this is where age comes into play. On average, the older you are, the more you can afford.

I was wondering how the price is so low as well.

Agree with Mutley 100%. $2200 is a pretty modest budget for a ring. I will say that I'm 22 and everyone I know that is engaged/married around my age had a pretty modest budget ($2500 or less). That's what they all could afford & were comfortable spending, so more power to them. FI and I are extremely financially responsible, are savers, and both worked close to full time during undergrad, so our budget was significantly higher than the norm for people our age.

i agree that its a modest price, it was the way the pp so condescendingly described how expensive her ring was that bothered me. i think people who brag about how much their things cost are insecure.

Um Irshis, I never called anyone a name. If I did let me know. Nor did I get defensive about someones comment regarding the ring. Like I said $2200 is a lot of money to spend just 3 days after looking at the ring. Thats why he was gonna save for 6 months and pay cash.

As far as the wedding goes we are going to be engaged for a year and a half to save money. Our parents will help, but most of the money will come from us. Secondly, I never said I would get 2 wedding dresses. I said one wedding dress and one reception dress, which is usually under $100. Dont read to much into these post and try to get something started.

I totally agree with Beth and Deburnin on this one. Yay for you. But dont try to kock us on how we are paying for things. We never asked you for a dime.

Hetshup- I totally didnt think about dirt. I know the warranty covers cleaning but yeah with so many diamonds it probably will attract dirt. Thanks I never really thought of that.

Megan, the stones falling is another big concern with the ring. Again it is covered under warranty but who wants to go every few months to get their ring repaired. I will continue to search for rings but it will be remotely close to this one. But I dont know, if i happen to go back into that store, I will fall in love all over again.Kiss

These are some good suggestions. I am going to do a little research on clusters and the diamonds. Our budget is $2500 so Im sure i can find something i will love.

He-hum, I described my ring with all the stats, 4Cs, cost, etc. because that's what the OP was asking for from the posters who dared criticize her ring. So I was just cutting to the chase.

My husband picked out a "fun" ring to wear on the weekends and on vacation that is black stainless steel with skulls and crossbones on it because he likes pirates. Everyone likes what they like, and I'm thrilled he got something he loves - both the "fun" band and his regular tungsten band.

For the record, I happen to not like cluster rings, but that's JMO. I also happen to think that $2200 for a ring is a LOT of money (not *so* much if it's for a wedding set though). DH and I are very frugal, and it shows in the way we live. He works for the government and I make less than him, so even though we are almost 30, our salaries do not accommodate very expensive jewelry, but luckily I don't have expensive taste and inherited rings and stones from grandmothers. Here are our rings (both the regular ones and the "travel" ones):

My e-ring was my paternal grandmother's. It is .1 carat, I color, with visible inclusions and six diamond chips surrounding it. The wedding band has stones from my maternal grandmother and my uncle made it. It has 4 emeralds and 11 diamonds in it, but we haven't had it appraised yet so I don't know the size/quality. The third ring of mine is just a plain white gold band for traveling (I'm paranoid I'll lose my grandmothers' rings).

I'll take your word for it being a modestly priced ring in the grand scheme of erings since I don't look at rings outside my own budget very often.

Actually, the ceremony and reception are both part of the wedding day. Therefore, having two dresses for that event is still easily considered to be two "wedding dresses". Regardless of how much you spend on it, it's still two dresses. I don't think it's common to assume that the second "reception dress" would be a given and that it would be under $100. No one was reading too much into your comment at all.

I'm not a fan of cluster rings. To me, they look too busy and I also expect diamonds would fall out frequently and dirt would get between the gems.

If you like the look of a clear stone but not the price tag, look at moissanite. You could also choose a coloured stone, which would be much cheaper than a diamond.

If you really do want a cluster stone, I would get one that doesn't have stones all down the sides of the band, especially not with two wedding rings. It looks much too busy and cocktail ring-esque to me with all those little diamonds.
