Hi Ladies. I've had a really terrible week.

Our wedding is next Friday, September 9th.
My FFIL died yesterday.  His funeral is tomorrow.
Sunday he was standing outside, had a seizure and fell.  He suffered massive brain injuries and was unable to recover from them.
We are very fortunate that he was able to donate his kidneys. The family is taking a lot of comfort in knowing that we are able to save 2 lives through this terrible loss. He was only 50 years old.

We talked about postponing the wedding. To be honest it is very difficult to imagine being happy in a week and dancing and eating cake, but it's what his family wants.

Please pray for him, Paul A Mattus, and for our family.
Please say an extra prayer for my FSIL.  This is particularly hard on her.

    So sad.  I'm very sorry for your loss, and I'm very sorry for the timing of it, as well.  I hope you, and all your familiy and friends, have a wonderful time at your wedding

    Oh gosh! And so close to the wedding, I'm so sorry! You are all in my prayers.  I'm glad you decided to continue with the wedding.  I am willing to bet he wouldn't have wanted you to postpone on his behalf.  And he will still be there with you all in spirit!

    Are you planning to do something to memorialize him at your wedding? A special prayer?

    We will remember him in the prayer of the faithful.  I don't think anything special will be needed to remember him...he would be impossible to forget.  

    Thank you for your prayers.  The Holy Spirit will get us through.

    I'm so sorry, Dagney.  Sudden deaths are just awful.  Your family will be in my prayers.

    As a side note on privacy, you may want to remove his last name from your post.  We try not to post full names around here.

    <major hugs> I am so sorry for your loss...there are no words to describe the loss of a parent at any time, much less right before your wedding.

    My mother died about 10 years ago, and my FI's father died when my FI was 34. At the reception, we are putting our engagement picture on a mantel, with a picture of his dad on one side and one of my mom on the other. I also have some of her ashes in a little (sealed) locket, and I'll be carrying that.

    No matter what, we know they will be with us...that's not the same as actually having them there, but it helps.

    I'm sooo sorry for your loss!  I'm sure your FFIL would want you to be happy and enjoy your wedding day.  Maybe you could have a moment of silence or dedicate a song to his memory.

    Thank you all so much for your kind words of support and your prayers.
    We did have a lovely wedding after all.

    These last 2 weeks were a perfect allegory for life itself.
