Bartender for golden gardens

ok, so the parks service says we have to have licensed bartender for beer and wine at reception. I've been to a wedding at alkai bath house where they didn't enforce this rule. Should we suck it up and hire a bartender or do you think they will check? Thanks!

You can get Pour Girls (http://www.pourgirls.com/index.htm) for probably $45-80 hour (depending on how many guests, I'm assuming if you fit into Golden Gardens, you're under 125 people). I think it's worth it.

    Here's why:
If they should come enforce it, and you have a minor or two caught with a drink (or worse, a minor gets a DUI on the way home...) and you don't have a bartender, I have an idea that, in the laws eyes, YOU provided alcohol to a minor. Even if you're down the beach when the kid grabs a beer, it's the space you rented, your banquet permit, the party you planned and... You could end up ticketed, sued, etc. Essentially, you figure about $300ish to cover your butts. And, it will be nice to have the service and they'll take care of some of the setup and cleanup, too.

There may be other cheaper groups, too. I just used that one as an example because it came to mind. You might be able to find someone on Craigslist with a bartending license who's doing just gigs. When  it comes to alcohol and the stupid things people do sometimes, I think you really should.

Not just your idea. Legally in King County (possibly Washington state), you (as the event thrower) are responsible for all alcohol poured at your event, whether there is a bartender there or not. You are also legally responsible for anyone who should depart your event completely hammered and get into an accident. (This actually holds true for any event, not just ones in public parks.) Unless you plan on going around policing all the underage drinkers and anyone who might be too drunk to drive home, I'd get a bartender that knows when to stop serving people and make sure s/he knows you want him to stick to that rule.

The fines (and all other subsequent pains in the butt) for not having a bartender in a public venue would probably be a lot more than just getting a bartender in the first place and covering your bases.

True. I didn't really think of that. Luckily we won't have any minors ther but y'all are right.
