Long or Short Bridesmaid Dress

So my wedding dress is satin and poofy.  It's very elegant, lots of beading in the bodice, pick up in the back.  I'm not sure if I should have long or short bridesmaid dresses.  My sister, the MOH, said she thinks long and she tried on a couple and some of them were nice, but there are some tea length ones that I like in satin.  I've been trying to find pictures of other brides with poofy dresses to see what they decided on for their bridesmaids but for some reason I keep seeing just a-line or fit flare pictures with bridesmaids.  Anyone have any ideas?  Our colors (as of now, they've changed numerous times) are black, gold and red and i'm thinking black dresses.
HELP!

Re: Long or Short Bridesmaid Dress

  •  I personally would go with black satin dresses and pick one length- I'd go with knee or tea length since more women wear this style than long dresses again. This way they can get their dresses anywhere, in their own bugets and whatever flatters them.
  • How formal is your wedding going to be? That should really determine how long the dresses are.

  • FORMAL Weddings--go with long
INFORMAL weddings- you can go with short or t-length

These are the standard rules, not too hard to figure out
But as you know, you can make up your own rules--its your wedding.!!
  • If your wedding is formal (which it sounds like it is based on your gown), then I'd go with long.  If not, I'd say knee length.  Personally I think tea length dresses are terribly unflattering unless the wearer is very tall and somewhat thin.

  • Personally, I think the time of year should also be taken into consideration. If it is super hot out, your bridesmaids may not be your friends after your wedding if you put them in a long dress ;-) But in all honesty, I was in a friend's wedding last May, and we were all hot miserable messes, and I swore than I would not pick a long dress for my wedding. To be honest, I am not certain my dress is perfect for my wedding theme, but it looks great on everyone, so I like it :) Maybe have the girls try on both styles to see which ones you like on everyone. It's your day - break the rules!

    Good luck!
