  There are no rules but don't let the numbers get out of hand.  And in my experience, the less number of ladies, the less drama.  Also, if you don't want any, that's fine too.

  I don't think there are any rules. I had 6 BM's, my husband had 6 GM.
  
  Just remember, the larger the WP you have, the more money you will have to factor into the budget for gifts, food, plus one's (if they have a SO), etc.

  The rules are that they be the people who are closest to you and that once you ask you can't unask. 
  
  It's not a rule that sides be even or that the WP have duties.
