Sew-in weave?

Hi ladies, I'm debating whether or not I should get sew-in. I had clip-in extensions and I loved them (and so did my FI), so now I'm considering the sew-in. I've never had one, so I'm going to try to get it now, since my wedding isn't until September, in case I hate it. I have a couple questions. How long does it take to get it done? Can I still put my hair in a ponytail? I workout a lot, so will this negatively impact my look? Finally, as far as maintenence, how often do you go to the salon, I currently go every two weeks, but just have relaxed hair. Will I have to go more often with a weave? Oh, and what type of hair, should I get? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks ladies.

It takes anywhere from 3-6 hours

Yes you can put your hair in a pony... mine is in one now. Just make sure the stylist knows what he/she is doing and tell them you'd like to be able to wear it in a pony at times.

If you are worker outer and you sweat at the scalp I'd rec a closure that way none of your hair is left out and you don't have to spend time maintaining that lil piece of hair that stays out on top.

I go to the salon weekly for the most part but bi weekly works too... I have really dry scalp so I have to make sure I maintain my scalp while wearing a weave. Consequently I have to either buy more expensive hair that can withstand weekly salon visits OR get my sew ins done more often.

Indian Hair (Remy) to me is best... the Virgin Indian Remy is even better but as with your own hair you have to maintain it. Products are really needed but keeping it wet on a regular basis helps it not have that dry "cheap" look

Sew ins take skill. You first have decide if you want a full sew in or a partial. I usually get partials which means some of my hair is left out to cover the weaved hair. Partials look more natural but it works better if you have long hair to begin with if the hair is long. If you go with the partial color and texture matching is crucial!!!! If the stylist orders hair without looking at your hair texture or color matching run the other way. You can do a ponytail with both full and partial weaves. With a full weave you have to keep your ponytail low. If you sweat a lot you may want to up your hair appointment to every 7-10 days with a partial weave because you want the hair to blend and match. For a full weave you can maintain your 14 day schedule. Best of luck!!!

Sew Ins are great I Love them and I get them every summer form April until November cause it is just to hot to wear my natural hair. It usually takes about 2.5 hours from start to finish for my sew in that includes braiding installing the hair and styling. I go to get mine washed and tightened every two weeks and if you want to hear a ponytail have the stylist leave some hair out around the front, back and sides as well as hair out on the crown so that you can move your part and it gives a more natural look. I use Remy Velvet hair and its about $75 per pack and I use a little more than a pack and a half for every install. HTH and post a pic once you have one,. Good luck!

But yes, ditto to what she just said. You have to make sure the hair is good quality or else it will look crazy. I was anti weave before i lost 29lbs and now i HAVE to have a weave. I work out 4 times a week and yes i wash my hair a lot. right now, i have a sew-in that can be straightened but gets curly when wet. I have been keeping up with the curly look because it is so much easier with working out.

I would do trail, like you said just in-case you do not like it, so you can get a feel for what to do and how to care for it before your wedding.

Thank you ladies so much. I have to say the possibility of sitting in a chair for 6 hours is scaring me a little, lol. I have shoulder length hair so I will probably get a partial. When you go to the salon weekly, do they just wash it? If not, what else do they do and how long does it take? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but, what is a closure?

Thanks Soon2BSand!!! The episode I saw the other day, it looked crazy!!!

I will have to ask my stylist about this, she's pretty good, does extensions and such for all races. The hair in the link looks so nice. What would the average price be for the sew in, so I can get an idea.

<div>Now THAT will vary... I pay about $225 for my sew in but some are less and some are more. Just remember you get what you pay for. If someone says they'll do a sew in for $50 it'll LOOK like it. :)</div>

Yeah def demand pictures I did sew-ins before my big chop it worked for me and I had never had a weave before. I think you will find its really easier than it seems to mantain. All the PP gave you the true low-down. Send pics!!

I am a big fan of weaves, wigs and clip ins. Not all weavologists are created equally so beware. Just because someone is expensive doesn't mean they are good and just because someoen is cheap doesn't mean they are bad.

I had a girl that did full head sew-ins with edges out for 85, she even relaxed my leave out. Lasted 3 months. I went to a guy that did a sew-in for 200, it looked a hot mess and I had to take it out a week later.

If your hair is shoulder length, I suggest you go for a partial. Personally I prefer leave out hair because it looks more natural and closures are very costly. Also, I like to have access to my hair. Some people get a weave and think they don't have to take care of the hair underneath. If wash and deep condition my hair weekly during the duration of my install. I also moisturize my scalp daily. And you should not keep an install in for longer than three months for the health of your own hair.

If you like clip-ins, you can go to a stylist and have them sew on a few tracks with your hair out in between. It looks natural and gives you more fullness and some length if you use. This is quick and cheap, 10 to 30 bucks a track, you probably only need 3.

Hi ladies, I got my weave done today, and I absolutely love it! It blends really well, I'm so surprised at how happy I am with it. Thank you all for the advice and support. I will post a picture this evening (if I can figure out how). Have a good long weekend everyone!
