I agree. I didn't like it at all.

  • It's just a horrible movie. There wasn't anything redeeming about it. What part was good? The part where all the dogs died? The part where his wife died? Or how about the part where he floated his damn house on a stupid adventure with a kid that wasn't his own, only to find that it wasn't AT ALL what his wife wanted? Way to go, dum dum. Or how about the part where the poor kids dad still didn't show up in the end and the guy who just about killed him shows up?

It was just a bad movie.

Up was pretty sad.  *Spoiler*And then they had saved all that money and didn't get to enjoy it together.

    ETA: And I cried.
  • I fall asleep every single time I try to watch Up.  EVERY TIME.  So I can't weigh in on the plot, I just know it doesn't hold my attention.
  • exactly, Megbo. EXACTLY.

Also, I'm pretty sure I talked to crfb on the phone last night sort of.

  • Anna -- more the softcore porn stuff.  There's a little bit of cheesiness in it, and definitely some parts where I wanted to slap both the main characters because they were being stupid, but I still loved the books.

  • I'm not sure how Fische feels about UP.  I think she needs to clarify her feelings.

  • The first time we saw Up, H was having a really bad day (fighting with my stupid FIL) and after the opening scene he got SO upset.  He was all WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS MOVIE, TO MAKE PEOPLE CRY?  OMG DISNEY WHY.

<div>Hmm.  I was crying/depressed in the first 5 minutes.  And called FI and was all, "This is so sad! What if this happens to us? Life sucks!" </div><div>
</div><div>Good job Disney, way to make me feel optimistic. </div>
  • UP was horrible.  I'm with Fishface.  What about the beginning where they lose the baby or whatever it is that happens.  That movie blows.

  • I've never seen Up.  From the looks of things, that's probably not the end of the world.  I haven't really liked many Disney movies made in the last 10 years or so, which probably explains why I haven't bothered to see it.
  • I haven't seen Up either. Partly because I don't like animated movies and partly because of how sad everyone says it is. I don't need another reason to cry!
  • I have kind of a personal boycot against computer animation stuff so I never saw Up either.
  • Maybe I've totally missed the beginning and catch it some time after all the sad stuff, or maybe I just tune it out as a defense mechanism.  I have no idea, I don't remember sad things, I just remember a bitter old man.

    Kevin. 'Nuff said.

Also, the story about the little girl's dying wish to see <em>Up</em>. If you haven't read it, the short version is a little girl had cancer and her wish was to see the movie, so Disney sent a rep with the movie to her house so she could see it before the film hit theaters, since her condition was rapidly deteriorating. The entire story in and of itself is heartbreaking, but that story makes me appreciate the movie so much more for some reason.
  • YES. LET'S SHOW THE GIRL DYING OF CANCER THE MOST DEPRESSING MOVIE EVER MADE.

But that was really nice of them to do. :)

  • Edie, DOGS DYING? Dad ditching out on his son? The guy realizing that he just did this really stupid thing FOR NO REASON, and it isn't what his wife wanted AT ALL?

Yeah, bad movie, and not in the least bit a heartwarming tale.

Ok, Kevin was pretty cute. I'll give you that.

<div>YES. Thank you.  This is what I was hinting about but didn't want to bring it up.</div>
  • I've liked some Pixar (Finding Nemo, Monter's Inc., the Toy Story movies, The Incredibles), but generally speaking haven't had a desire to see any Disney movie (other than those aforementioned) since The Lion King.
  • Fish - I don't think any dogs died in the movie, I could be wrong however.

Yes a bunch fall off that cliff thing, but they come back later in the movie all sopping wet to tell the bad dude that they all got away.

But, I liked the movie, though your hate is understood.

  • I love The Toy Story movies and Finding Nemo was ok. I'm not a big fan of most other animated movies. H surprisingly likes them though, so I am sometimes forced to watch them with him.

<div>And?? He was an ass to that little boy.  Who was basically kidnapped.  And all he wanted was to be loved goddammit! Pay attention to me Daddy! So sad.  </div><div>
</div><div>Now I need to go watch Love Actually for the umpteenth time this year.  People can argue with me that it is also depressing, but I like it!</div>
  • Finding Nemo is one of my favorite new(er) animated movies.  Hilarious.
