Trivia contest/theme at wedding reception

Hello!  I am getting married this September.  My fiance and I met at a trivia night and we were thinking of trying to incorporate this into our wedding reception.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I am kinda coming up empty on this one!  I think it would be great to have some sort of trivia theme for the invitations and favors and maybe even a short trivia contest at the reception.  If anyone has any idea I would be most appreciative!!!

Maybe you could make up trivia questions related to you and your fiance (thinking about something similar to Trivial Pursuit cards - question on front, answer on back) and leave them on the tables at the reception. It might be a good way to get people at the table chatting. Then make sure to make the first question in the box How did ___ and ___ meet? to help guests understand the background behind it all.

  • Here's an example of a wedding program with different games on the back:

  • I know you want to to include trivia in your reception because it holds a special meaning but you may not have a lot of time during your wedding reception to do this.  Maybe you can do it at your rehearsal dinner instead with your closest family and friends.  That way you can really enjoy it and won't feel like you have a millino other things to do like eat, take pictures, dance, say hello to all your guests, cake cutting, etc etc.  Good luck!

  • Ditto PP. You could incorporate that theme into little pieces of your wedding, like Escort cards or naming each table after a famous game show/trivia show that ran on TV, etc. But I would stop short of actually playing games at the reception. If you did this anywhere, I would do it at a shower or the RD, but not the actual wedding.

  • We are having a trivia contest at the rehearsal dinner.  My future FIL does these every Christmas and it was a great way to include him in the planning.  We are going to have the Bride versus the Groom teams - not divided by family- my mom for example, will be on my FI team, etc... I have been to weddings in Germany and a Chinese/Irish wedding that did a trivia game too... I think they work depending on the atmosphere of the party and your guests.  I don't want my guests just to sit at a reception table, admire the flowers, and make small talk...so the trivia at the Reception Dinner does break ice and the two families will have a shared experience that can serve as a conversation starter at the reception.  Hopefully it will make it a fun party rather than just another wedding!
  • We are incorporating trivia into our reception, we are having a buffet and instead of dismissing tables by their number, we are playing trivia to dismiss the tables. if they get stuck, we gave our DJ clues to read.
