What would you do?

So I have a little tattoo on the back of my neck. I got it after me and FI got engaged so it kinda means something to me. Now I have all these people asking me if I'm going to cover it up, when I hadn't thought anything of it. So my question is, what would you do if you had a visible tattoo?

Just wanted to add, I'm not covering mine, I just want to see what others think.

Re: What would you do?

  • I'd do what felt *right* to me.  I purposely got my tattoo in a spot that wouldn't be shown most of the time, but I think if you want to show your tattoo, rock it.

  • It's a part of you, and it has special meaning.  Why would you cover that up?

  • I have two tattoos on my back (one on each shoulder).  My dress is strapless and I am not going to cover them up.  They are a part of me and who I am.  If it means something to you, why would you want to cover it?

Thats my point exactly! I love my tattoo or I wouldn't of gotten it. I just don't understand why other people don't understand that. Its not like I have some huge skull with cross bones and blood. Its like the size of a quarter.
  • So show it off!   Be yourself.
  • Do what you feel is right... if your hairs down then no need to cover it.. If your afraid it might show up in pics and don't want that cover it.... I like the tattoo a lot... Very cute!! I have mine all hidden and cant wait to get married cause there's a few I want that you'll be able to see

  • I have a tattoo that will be visible with my dress. My mom wants me to cover it up ebacuse she hates tattoos. I do NOT plan on covering it up. I have it there for a reasons & it has a lot of meaning to me. I'd say "Well if I didn't like it and it doesn't hvaing any meaning to me then why would have I gotten it especially in a spot where everyone can see?"

  • I have a tattoo on my arm. I will not be covering it up. It's part of who you are.
  • If it meant enough to you to have it permanently engraved in your body, I don't see why you wouldn't want to leave it as it is. Unless it is your ex's name, or something you did when you were drunk and stupid and you now regret, I think you should be proud of it.

  • none of my tattoos will be visible under my dress, but even if they were i wouldn't think twice about it. i have them, they're part of me, they would stay visible.
  • I actually got a henna tattoo on my wrist specifically for the wedding.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Clearly you missed the brides with tattoos post (it took on a life of its own.)  OF 1054 votes... 508 would leave uncovered to show off and  395 would neatly cover it.

  • oooh I will have to search to find the tattoo thread! Sounds amusing.

I have a large tattoo on my shoulder blade and my dress does have straps but most of it will be visible. I am proud to show it because it means a lot fo me. I have plans for the other shoulder but since my family doesnt even know about the current one(s) I have, I think one visible during the wedding is enough for them to handle. hahahah
  • you got it for a reason, i wouldnt care who saw it when!

  • When people ask things like that it usually means they have a tatoo and don't like it anymore.  You got it because you love it and I say show it off!

  • I voted to leave it alone.  If it was something you didn't really like, that you got in a moment of impulsive immaturity, which you'd like to eventually have removed, I'd say cover it up.  But you like it, it's meaningful to you, so why cover it?

If your ceremony is taking place in a church or a synagogue, ask the priest or rabbi performing the ceremony if the tat is a problem.  If you get the thumbs up from the clergy, you're home free.
I only advise asking the officiant because there are some houses of worship that are very traditional and don't allow things like open toed shoes and bare shoulders.  If yours is in this category, you'd better find out now before you show up on your wedding day to find that thy won't perform the ceremony unless your tat is covered.
