Vote Please

So... I am torn between two places for my reception.  My FI provides no feedback, so I wanted to ask your opinion.  One place is downtown on the water, about twenty minutes from my ceremony location, cost is about $700, and there are no restrictions at all on food and beverage.  The place is georgeous, exposed brick walls and great lighting.  Here I would be serving alchol and heavy hors d'oeuvres.  The second place is the church hall where I am getting married.  We can still dance, but no alchol.  It is not the prettiest place in the world, but guests would not have to travel at all, and here since forgoing alachol, I would have a larger assortment of food.  Also here, I can set up outdoor activities.  It also has a kitchen which the other location does not.  Pretty typical chuch hall though, concrete walls etc.  The church is larger also, and has parking, whereas the downtown venue has no parking (there are alot of eldery coming).  The church is only $150.  What is your opinion?  Which would you rather go to?

  • It really just depends on what type of wedding you want...for myself and my fiance, we one of our top priorities was alcohol and another was a unique venue, so I lean towards the first option! It sounds like a great space and that you can having dancing and a ton of fun!
  • Agreed - I'd be all about the first venue too. Its YOUR wedding so its really a night to celebrate the joining of lives betwen you and your fiance. While I totally respect the elderly....realistically, they will be the first to leave the wedding. If parking is an issue, is there a way you could provide a shuttle or valet for your guests at the downtown venue so the elderly wouldn't have to worry about it. How do they not have parking???? None at all???? Sounds like a bad business decision...
  • I also agree, you need to make this decision based on what works for you and your guest list. For us, we knew it was important to have a full open bar and lots of dancing. The place downtown near the water sounds beautiful!
  • I refuse to patronize places that don't have convenient parking, so I'd go with the church.  Otherwise, I'd go with your first option.
  • Personally, it sounds like you like the downtown place better.. So that's the one I'd choose. I'm sure they have some sort of parking for you. If you have to assign some young people to drop the old people off at the door and then park the car, so be it! haha Or maybe a valet situation for certain guests?
  • Don't do the church hall. The other place sounds much better. Think about the photographs you can get at the site on the water. At the end of the day all you have is the pictures.
