Name change process...

So this may be a stupid question...but I'm not sure so I'll ask :)

I've already got my marriage licence (the wedding is in 3 weeks!!!). What do I do next to change my name? I know I have to go to Social Security and DMV but I'm not sure exactly which one to go to first or what to bring.

if anyone can help i'd appreciate it :)

    You can't change your name until after the wedding and you get the certified copy of your marriage license in the mail.

    But you need to go to the SS office first and then the DMV.  Bring your social security card and your marriage license with you.

    FYI--  You can make an appointment before you go to the DMV so it doesn't take all day sitting there!

    Oh its so miserable to change your name and costs. All of the laws changed at the beginning of the year. You this is what you have to bring now and noone tells you so i had to make mulitiple trips to the DMV

    1. Marriage Certificate
    2. License you have now
    3. either birth certificate or passport
    4. 2 proofs of the address you live at. and they need to be like bills or something not just magazines or anything. (even if you aren't changing the address on your license currently they still made me do it) 
    I think that is it. Oh and because all of our bill were in my husbands name he had to fill out a form (this was my fourth trip back) that said I really do live with him because I guess they didn't believe me. so definitely check into it before you go. Its a pain in the royal butt! it cost like 35 bucks.

    and then i had to get my tag and title switched over from my parents name to mine. it cost 385 dollars. because of the new laws they just passed. so hopefully you do not have to do that

    oh and you have to go to the social security office first once you do that you have to wait 24 hours till you go to the DMV or your name won't be in the system. you wont get your real card for two weeks but they will give you two pieces of paper at  the social security office you need to bring if you want to go before you get your card in the mail. 

    ROYAL PAIN!
