Honeymoon Booked?

Have any of you decided on where you are going for your honeymoon and when you are going, like right after your wedding or a few months later? Has anyone booked all or part of their honeymoon yet?

    Where is your unusual destination?

We are going to Walt Disney World for two weeks next October, six months after the wedding. March/April is the absolute worst time to go to Disney World because of Spring Break; it is the most expensive season Disney has. September/October is their cheapest season, so we are able to stay at a fancier hotel than we would have if we went in April. Plus, by going in October we will be there for my fiance's (then husband's Smile) 25th Birthday and my dad's Birthday.

My parents and sister will also be going to Disney World at the same time, although they will be staying in their fifth wheel at the Disney Wilderness Lodge Campgrounds while my husband and I will be staying at Disney's Contemporary Resort. We decided to splurge on one of Disneys deluxe hotels, because it will be decades before we would do it again. I have been to Disney World six times, but my fiance has only been once. He came to Disneyland with my family last March and was amazed by how fast we move and how much we can get done. He is super excited about Disney World since it will be like the Disneyland trip times ten.

We booked our hotel two weeks ago, but we have to wait to make all of our Disney dining reservations until two days after our wedding because you can only make reservations six months out. Until then, we are just planning where we want to go on which days, when we should book our flights, and when we should buy our park tickets. Since Disney only sells up to 10 day park tickets, we have to figure out what to do on our three "rest days". At least one day we are going to Harry Potter World at Universal Studios and another day my fiance and dad are going golfing.

We have been planning the wedding since December 2010, so there are only minor things left to plan. I am super excited to be able to actually start planning stuff for the honeymoon now!

  • Sleeper, I've heard using an agent makes things go sooo much smoother!

Brianna, I've never been to the any of the Disney theme parks, but want to go now! When DH and I started researching vow renewals, we found a bunch of them done at Disney parks. They have a really nice vow renewal package. The pictures made me want to go visit!

We didn't go on a honeymoon after eloping, but went one a belated honeymoon about 3 or 4 years later. We spent 5 days away from our (then) only 3 kids and it was the first time we'd been away from them. I thought it would bother me, but it didn't! We had a blast! We spent 3 days in Tunica, MS, in their casinos (my hubby is quite the card player!) and then a couple of days in Branson, MO. It was wonderful.

For our 15th anniversary, we don't have anything planned yet. If we do anything, it'll probably need to be a family trip and that's fun, too, just not very romantic. If all goes as planned, dh will have a couple of weeks with us! Very unusual!

  • We haven't made a concrete decision yet. I REALLY want to go to Couples Swept Away in Jamaica but I'm scared to book anything since our finances are a little iffy right now. Ideally we'd go there for maybe 4-5 nights the first week of April or so. We've considered waiting but in June we're both in a wedding and we wanted to start having kids kinda soon afterwards, so I wouldn't want to be pregnant on the honeymoon!

I've considered Disney as a place to go since FI has never been there. I've been there SO many times (I think I counted like 18 times between the two?) so I know my way around and know way too much (thanks to my sister and her obsession) haha. I just wonder how fun it would be for him to experience a new place with someone that knows it well. I think I'd rather experience a new place together :-)

[QUOTE]We're planning on going to the United Arab Emarites; Dubai and maybe Abu Dhabi. Super smart to book Disney in the Fall, Brianna! FI went to college and grad school at the University of Central Florida, so we visit Orlando a lot. Which hotel are you staying at? For your extra day, if you're looking for something a little over the top, you should check out Discovery Cove. It's pretty pricey, but totally worth it. Julie, I grew up in Southeast Kansas, and we went to Silver Dollar City every summer as kids, so I LOVE Branson! Family trips can be fun too!!! You guys should definitely plan something for after the vow renewal. Are you guys anywhere near Hot Springs?

No, we are north central Arkansas, just about 40 minutes from the Missouri state line. We LOVE Silver Dollar City and haven't been there in a few years. Maybe we'll do that. :)

  • No, we still aren't exactly sure where we want to go, and I think we'll do like Sleeper and leave a few days later so we can settle things at home first. I think Disney World would be awesome, but we are already planning a family vacation there next fall, we'd like to go somewhere we can just relax.

Your destinations sound very cool and unique.

We are staying at Disney's Contemporary Resort. My aunt stayed there during our first trip to Dinsey World back in 1996. We thought about staying at Saratoga Springs, but since it is a Villa Resort, they don't book the rooms super far out for people who are not part of the Disney Vacation Club.

Disney World is awesome in April because of the International Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot. We will be there for the International Food and Wine Festival and Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Disney parks have their pros and cons any time of year, but it is always fun no matter when you go. I've been to Disneyland about 15 times, so we've been almost every time of year. New Years Eve is the busiest day because people enter the park in the morning and sit in front of the castle and around the lake all day waiting for the midnight fireworks. It makes it impossible to get around the park.

Disney World park tickets are sold as 1 to 10 day passes, but we will be there for 13 days. We looked into an annual pass, but it was too expensive. I very much dislike "rest days", because I prefer to be in the parks from open to close every day. But Disney has so much outside of the parks to do (the waterparks and DisneyQuest), so even "rest days" will be busy and fun.

  • You know, I wouldn't mind going to Disney during another part of the year, haha. My family always went on a winter vacation in January to somewhere warm (though there were times it was warmer here in MN than it was in FL...) and a summer one to visit family. So I've seen Disney MANY times all decorated for the holidays. Would be nice to go another time of year and see the cool stuff!

We went to Disney World in 2005 for Thanksgiving, which is the start of the holiday decor. It was really warm, but they still handed out the free hot chocolate and cookies. We then went to Disneyland four months later for Spring Break and it was freezing. We had to buy scarves, gloves, and hats because it was so cold. It was totally backwards, but makes for great memories.

I have always wanted to go to Disney World for the Halloween celebration and was super excited when I found out they start the party in September. They will have the Halloween party at least five times while we are there. Yay!

  • I live about 30 min from Disney! I can definitely vouch for the Food and Wine Festival- SO much fun. But then again, FI and I love "drinking around the world" at Epcot and then watching the fireworks so thats more our thing. Fall is better weather than spring here anyway- as long as you don't come during a hurricane its much less rainy in the fall. I've never noticed Disney being busy during spring break but I would avoid spring just because it rains a lot here.

If you need any recommendations for places to go outside of Disney let me know :)

We haven't booked our honeymoon yet because we're still debating between the Florida Keys and Napa/Sonoma. We will only be there 4 says or so because we have to travel from PA (where the wedding is) back to FL first. We are paying for our whole wedding so we don't have a lot to spend on the honeymoon, and we're saving up for a 3 week trip to Europe for our 1 year anniversary anyway. We're leaning towards the Florida Keys and will probably use the points we get from having our wedding at a Marriott for our hotel. It will be wonderful to relax with my future hubby after the wedding, so won't matter where we are :)
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • Using the Marriot points is a great plan for the hotel. My dad travels a lot for work, so we always had free or discounted US Airways flights and Marriot hotel stays when we went on vacation. Marriot has so many awesome hotels, our Favorite being the Horizons Vacation Resort in Orlando. My parents went to the Florida Keys last year and loved it. From the pictures of some of the islands, it is gorgeous. They considered driving down to the Keys when we go to Disney next year, but they decided they wanted to spend the full two weeks at Disney instead.

  • Our honeymoon was the first thing we booked (and only thing so far actually). It was a gift from my parents. We have a condo on the ocean in New Smyrna Beach, FL for a week...and plan to spend a couple days commuting to Lakeland for the Tigers Spring Training. We are both baseball fans, and will be itching to see our Detroit Tigers in action by that time! Cool
