The heat and humidity today are making me wonder...

We have several guests who are definitely coming to the wedding who are quite old and one of them is actually very allergic to the sun.  Our wedding is hopefully going to be outdoors and the ceremony is set to start at 3:30.  The Manor has already told us that they will have ice water outside for guests if it's really hot that day, but do you think we should have some type of shaded area somewhere among the ceremony seating? 

Should I maybe pick up one of those portable canopies if the forecast looks like it's going to be sweltering?  Or should we have some umbrellas that the the ushers can give out to the older guests as they walk in?  My only concern is that umbrellas can lead to people who are sitting behind them not being able to see.  Unfortunately, our reception space is on the complete opposite side of The Manor from where the ceremony is, so it's not as though our guests can sit inside and watch the wedding at the same time.

Thoughts or ideas?

    I would try to provide shade, yes.

    Maybe a paper parasol would be better than a big umbrella? It'd provide shade but not block the view as much, maybe?

    If the weather gets too hot (like last Thursday, where I almost collapsed after standing outside for 5 minutes), is it possible to have the ceremony moved indoors?

    I know it's not what you want, but you need to think about your guests.

    i would definately look into this option. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding yesterday and the ceremony was outside. I was so sweaty and gross I wished that I  could have showered inbetween. the guys in suits were all complaining. if this can't be an option, definately provide shade

    We got married last July on a hot and humid day (it was 95+ degrees).  Originally we had planned on having our ceremony outdoors (at 6:30 PM) but decided to move it inside to accomodate our elderly guests and let's be honest, all of our guests in suits!  I had to make the call the evening before and was disappointed (since a huge deciding factor was that The Rockleigh had nice outside grounds).  I think our guests were grateful and everyone still enjoyed being outside for the cocktail hour.
