table 'number' ideas

I'm trying to come up with a creative 'name' for tables, rather than just using numbers.
FI & I are both huge football fans, and my first thought was team names or stadium names, but since we cheer for rival teams, this idea has to be nixed because I'd want our table to be my team & FI would want it to be his.
Does anyone have any fun/unique ideas??

Re: table 'number' ideas

  • We live in Italy, so we used names of cities we've been to, with photos from there that we've taken.

If you have traveled together, you could do something similar.  I didn't use any photos of us, just of the place because I didn't want it to be an AW fest.  But it was fun, and it provided talking points for our guests.
  • What about having your parents' tables be the rival teams and picking a team you both like neutrally as yours?  That could make your team/stadium idea work. If you are having parents at separate tables that is.

We're doing an old Hollywood theme and are doing our markers as Hollywood actors and starlets. We may throw a couple of movies in there too. If we did that, we might consider my parents' table being "Father of the Bride" movie poster and his "Meet the Parents" or something like that.

If using your rival teams on parents' tables doesn't work, how about favorite players or more specific Hall of Famers?  If we weren't doing Hollywood, we'd probably do baseball because I LOVE it and we'd probably do a lot of old timers as markers: Roberto Clemente, Babe Ruth etc.

  • What about putting a twist on your team names? Like the head table could be "your  last name Statium" and then like the other tables could be like 'The Sara Saints" or  "the Jean colts" or something like that so it's more personalized.
  • We're not "naming" the tables, persay. They will still have numbers. But we are using family and friends' wedding photos. We're thinking about having a card at each table asking people to try and identify who is who (probably a matching game versus a fill in the blank), and whoever gets it first will get...something. Idk yet what that something will be. But I think it will be fun. I hope. haha

I like the travel idea. FI and I were in Europe two summers ago, living in London for awhile. We toyed with the idea of making each table a London neighborhood, but we weren't sure if we had enough pictures.

  • how about naming the "head" table as Pro-bowl?  or All-Stars?  I really like the idea of you guys having football teams as your table names; it's something personal to both of you and helps add a personal touch.  In addition it forces people to mingle..  maybe you can set up the room somewhat geographically if you think people would be concerned about where to find their seats.. "do you know where the Eagles are?  I think they're by the Steelers.."

I'm having a fall wedding and I'm thinking about naming the tables different trees I like in the fall.  I always felt kind of slighted at weddings when I found out I was at a low numbered table, even though I know no one meant anything by it.
  • My man and I are having a classy black and white wedding. Our table "numbers" are all picture objects that are black and white. Dice, Oreos, Zebras, and so on....we have 14 tables. The guests will know where to sit by looking at a chart as they enter the building, so it won't be a major search.
  • We are doing 2 sided table numbers.  On each table, there is a picture of me at that age on one side and my fiance at that age on the other side. (Table one- pics when we are one, etc.) They turned out so cute! I hope the guests enjoy going to the different tables to see the pictures!
  • We've travelled a lot and met overseas, and he's australian, I'm american, so we're doing something like, "oh the places we've been".  Then at each table, we'll have one framed photo of us in that place.  So, for example:

Brisbane - where we live today
Edinburgh - where we first met
Narragansett - where we're getting married
    Mooloolaba - where he proposed

    Etc.

I also like the idea of your ages... photos of the two of you growing up.  And I think the football idea is fun too.  It's all good, as long it's personal to the two of you in some way.
